BOX OFFICE: ANT-MAN Expected To Stay At #1 This Weekend Ahead Of PIXELS

Never doubt the power of Marvel Studios! Despite competition from Pixels this weekend, it appears as if the overwhelmingly negative reviews for the video game centric movie have done it no favours, and Ant-Man will stay at #1 for the second week in a row. Read on for details!

Pixels opened at #1 on Friday with $9.2 million, but the latest estimates predict that it will fail to retain that spot for the weekend. Instead, it will be Ant-Man which just manages to beat it to the top of the North America box office with $26.1 million compared to Pixel's $23.8 million.

This could change as these sorts of estimates can sometimes be off by a few million every now and again, but with such negative buzz surrounding the Adam Sandler led release, it's hard to imagine it getting a sudden increase thanks to positive word of mouth and a so/so B CinemaScore.

Ant-Man continues to do well regardless. If it does earn around $26 million this weekend, that will be a drop of only 55%, a fairly strong hold and less of a decline than both Captain America: The First Avenger and The Incredible Hulk (they fell by 60%). What did you decide to watch this weekend?

Pixels got really bad reviews, I'm not all that surprised. Ant-Man deserves the top spot more anyway.

This is a possible underestimate of a Sandler family picture. Remember when Grown Ups 2 had a bigger opening than Pacific Rim?

Sheesh, but will it survive...

so far I'm hearing a few mixed things about M:I:5 still expecting it to be a fun ride though.

Even if it doesn't make #1 this weekend domestically I'm sure it'll still thrive internationally.

Good to hear. I wonder if the box office takings will warrant a sequel. But Phase 3 is pretty packed as it is.

I hope Ant-Man stays at #1 so it can delight Marvel enough to convince them to release the sequel in November 2019 to be the new end to Phase Three.

I kinda wanted to see Pixels after the first trailer was released because of Peter Dinklage, but Adam Sandler has offset any interest that I had. Even in the trailers he looks depressed

I'm still taking the nephews to see "Pixels." Don't expect it to top "Ant-Man."

@TheOracularNerd

I don't really go on RT much but Mission Impossible 5 has a 96% on RT right now after 25 reviews, I think that's good, not sure though, I'm guessing it could change

That's kick ass for Marvel. I guarantee if Ant Man doesn't have the Marvel stamp on it. It would have far less money so far at the box office. I enjoyed the film,it didn't feel like a Marvel movie, only when they dropped hints and easter eggs, and Falcons appearance. Otherwise it felt like a heist flick. I expected Pixels to have a lackluster performance at the box office. Adam Sandler hasn't had real funny movie's since the 90's, Bulletproof with Damon Wayne's is one of my favorites. His best movie in the last ten years is Click....IMO. Wish he would go back to comedies like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. That train has sealed unfortunately, Sandler is old now lol.

@ALegendaryPanda-I want to see Southpaw also man. Let me know what you think of it. I'm a big Eminem fan, he was executive producer for the soundtrack. I like what I hear so far. Em has a song with Gwen Stafani on it. Never would expect him to do a song with her.Kurt Sutter wrote the script and he wanted Eminem to co-produce but he stuck to doing just the soundtrack. Jake Gyllenhaal looks like a beast in all the trailers I've seen.
