$40million Question: Is The Avengers A Low Budget Movie Or Shooting Expensive Scenes?

$40million Question: Is The Avengers A Low Budget Movie Or Shooting Expensive Scenes?

It looks like The Avengers are planning to assemble in Cleveland. But what's all this talk of a $40million budget? Are they making this movie on the cheap or spending a load of money on some huge scenes?

How do we know this is The Avengers? Well, how many other Marvel/Disney movies do you know of that'll be shooting in the next few months and recently pulled out of Michigan as we reported here on CBM a few days ago? Check out an excerpt from the interview here.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich said he has been in talks with city officials to bring shooting of a $40 million Marvel/Disney superhero movie to Cleveland.

The Republican governor said Sunday that the movie, which he would not name, was originally supposed to be filmed in Michigan.

Of course, this raises one major question. Will Marvel Studios be spending $40 million alone in Cleveland on what one can only imagine will be some truly epic action sequences, or is that in face the budget of the entire movie As Bleeding Cool point out, this may not include extras like special effects and promotion. It might just be a rough idea of what production will cost as they're saving the expense of filming in a city like New York.

Personally, I'd bet that this is simply what they're planning on spending in this one location, which begs the question: what exactly might that be? Be sure to share your thoughts on this in the usual place!

The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012!

It's clearly the budget for that shoot. There's no way the entire budget is $40 million.

I believe it was in the news that Marvel would be shooting parts of the film in Detroit, but the governor of Michigan eliminated the tax incentive they were going to get, so they pulled out of Detroit.I think that happened last Monday.

So, this must be their alternative.

They have cheaped out on actors, directors, and even the occasional script writer, but I doubt after years of hype, that they will skimp out on The Avengers.

Anybody who thinks for even a milli-second that The Avengers has been given the total of a $40 million budget needs to have their head examined.

Not to be blunt, of course.

iron man budget $140 million

iron man 2 $170-$200 million

the incredible hulk $150 million

thor $150 million

captain america the first avenger $140 million

$40 million for the avengers, that probably doesn't even cover the fees to the actors.

the avengers will have a budget between $150-$200 million, maybe even slightly more.

@teanag. To be fair I find that talk of disposing of dead hookers offensive (being from Ipswich). Why dispose of them when you can keep them doted around the house for whenever you need them?! Waste not want not.

So no one actually said they would be filming avengers??? You are all dumb as shit for speculating anything without real proof. Bash me all u want, but no where in there did they actually say they were filming avengers. And now I feel dumber for reading this article and then commenting. Thanks Josh!!

This is the best CBM news in a long time. I live in Cleveland and cannot wait. It was great seeing little pieces of Cleveland in Spiderman 3. The fight scene with the Sandman in S3 was in front of a building the company I work for was demolishing.

Its also neat because I have an Ironman/ Spiderman team-up comic book where they are in Cleveland fighting Blacklash. Now both of the characters are going to have scene's here. Makes that comic even neater.

You are 100% accurate. according to records the top 20 budgeted movies the ranges of them are between $200 mil to $300 mil. 13 out of 20 films surpassed the budget mark, and 16 out of 20 required CGI effects.

Avengers will be no more than $200mil IMO.

40 million will buy you alot in cleveland. not as much as detroit though cause that place is a shithole. 40 million could probably buy you the whole city. but the only thing you could do with it is douse it with gasoline and light a match
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 2/28/2011, 6:56 AM
What everyone else said. $40M is likely the cost of the actors alone and they aren't filming the entire movie in Cleveland....I hope.
JackBauer

$40 million for Cleveland alone. Total budget will be well over $200 million.

@teabag. Who said you had to get them fresh from a pimp? The old second hand ones straight off the street are just as good. They just go rotten quicker. As for you getting attached to things, I did have one mine go missing recently...

the 40 million is obviously only a portion of the budget. the budgets on both Iron Man movies were supposedly in the 80-100 million range I believe. Thor was something like 80 Million, Cap probably around the same. There is no way that Marvel won't go all out on the movie they have been prepping and setting up for several years.

Kasich is the worst governor ever. EVER.

This would be the only good thing he's done for Ohio, IF it happens.

EDIT: Wouldn't be surprised if he was the one that screwed up the numbers for the movie's budget. To him there's hardly a difference between 40mil and 400mil. "LOL I STILL GET PAID!"

@Rodimus9...i agree

but this one, and any movie right now for that matter, needs to shoot in detroit...motor city is now obama motor city and with the auto industry all but dead there, they need any moneys they can get

i like eminem's song bout detroit but it may be too late

so whatever movie industry they may have might save the town

@ELgUaSoN - So what if he almost had an all white cabinet. You hire the best person for the job or in the case of politics whoever donates more money to your campaign or kisses your ass more. Race should never be part of the criteria for job applicants.

That is [frick]ed up about MLK day on St. Patties day though. I guess he didn't realize that he already had a federal holiday in January, the same day my state recognizes Robert E. Lee day :)
