THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Confirms South Africa Filming But Not In Cape Town

It was initially reported that Marvel and writer-director Joss Whedon had scouted Cape town, but now a local film commission announces The Avengers sequel will shoot in another South African city!

An earlier press release from Marvel Studios suggested that principal photography on The Avengers: Age of Ultron wouldn't start until March, but now it seems that start-date was for its production in the United Kingdom. Following several indications of shooting taking place in South Africa, it's now been confirmed that the Joss Whedon-directed Marvel sequel will be filmed in and around parts of Johannesburg, Gauteng for two weeks, starting later this month. “We’re thrilled that Marvel Studios is bringing a major motion picture project to Johannesburg, and we’re committed to showing them the very best our region has to offer,” said the CEO of Gauteng Film Commission. The city's Mayor also commented: “We are excited to host Marvel; strengthens Johannesburg’s position as a worldwide film production centre with first class facilities and production support. It also has a very positive impact for the region and is a great opportunity for the city to be showcased to a worldwide audience.” The report further reveals that the scenes filmed in South Africa will not involve any of the principal cast members, however, they will be “action photography sequences.” Anyhow, there's still no word on whether the country is doubling for another location, or the fictional African nation of Wakanda, but The Avengers: Age of Ultron is also scheduled to film in several parts of Italy, South Korea, and England this spring. What do you think?

The Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader. The anticipated film is set to release on May 1, 2015.

The Avengers go up against Hydra and Aim before Ultron so we are left with a location for Hydra or Wakanda who are in possession of the only vibranium on earth and one of the Infinity gems.

It says that the scenes in South Africa will not contain any of the primary across. Does this mean that it will be a quick shot of T'chaka/T'chala and the wakandans fighting off Ultrons forces?

You tend to hear about second unit stuff starting early all the time.

"Action photography sequences" sounds like this would mostly be stuff like explosions, destruction, vehicular stunts, or panicked crowds.

They'll probably start filming with the main cast next month, and that will technically be considered the "start of principal photography."

Bring on Black Panther in phase 3! Screw all that "team up movie with cap" nonsense. However I have a slight feeling the Inhumans will take BP's spot...smh

If T'Challa isn't in Age of Ultron, there's no doubt that he's in Phase Three. Even if he doesn't have his own movie he'll likely show up in Avengers 3. There's no way Marvel would keep us waiting until 2020.

Cumberpatch would've made a great Loki.

@ MexicanSuperman

when i thought about the villains i would like to see in the avengers trilogy these came to mind.

the avengers loki (got that)
the avengers 2 ultron & kang (got half of that at least)
the avengers 3 the masters of evil

thanos needs to be an epic trilogy like lord of the rings with all the heroes & maybe some of the villains that have been introduced over phase 1-3 taking on thanos with the infinity gauntlet.

I have a feeling that Quicksilver's costume will look something like this:

Chiwotel something or other would be a good Black Panther, but it'd be stupid to throw a black panther in there when they still have a black widow.

Hope they do a black panther movie soon and finally let a black lead hero have his time to shine in the mcu. im kind over just the black sidekick title.

@Remy

If not then they'll of course, as is the case with pretty much every other MCU character, give him his Ultimates look...

so lets see what we know so far about thisfilm-

-We know Baron Von Strucker is in the movie played by Thomas Kretschmann, he will be a minor villain, maybe in the opening sequence of the film and could be the lead in for quicksilver and scarlet witch in the film

-Hawkeye will have a much bigger role in the film

-there are at least 15 moments in the film that will make fanboys go wild!!

-The Movie will be a little darker and will have more of a science fiction element in it due to the presence of Ultron

-Ultron will have many forms throughout the film, we will see him evolve

-The movie is going to be alot about the avengers pace not only in America, but in the World

interesting tidbits
