Thanos was just playing with everyone in this scene, anyway. He could've stopped them all at ANY moment.

I remember being worried that Infinity War, or rather Avengers 3 way back when wouldn't have enough heavy hitters by the time Thanos rolled around.

I don't think the Phase Two solo movies did a good job of introducing new heroes besides the Guardians. All the other solos were sequels to Phase One (and Ant-Man, who they didn't even end up using). Phase Three instead gave us Strange, Spidey & Panther in one straight shot.

@Kurne - Ant man was really in phase 3 wasnt he?

@MadameCipher - No, it was the end of phase 2. Phase 3 started with Civil War.

@MadameCipher - It was supposed to kick off Phase Three, but then they moved it to the end of Phase Two.

Doctor Strange's solo movie was really meh for me but his sequence in Infinity War is probably my favorite part of the whole movie. Cool to see in the concept art that they had even more creative ways for him to fight Thanos ready to go if necessary.

Looks like Strange was about to send Thanos on the same mind trip the Ancient One sent him on. Now THAT would've been some even wilder shider

Excellent art. Beautiful. The ones with Thanos looking at everyone's souls are pretty neat.

Strange fighting Thanos was easily one of my favourite scenes in the movie. The Russos have a talent for making every Marvel character more interesting.

Scott Derrickson really has a lot to prove with the sequel. It confuses me sometimes how Strange's solo film ended up. Not terrible by any means because it's got a decent story and character arc, as well as some good performances. It just however, really failed to live up to the hype of taking the MCU in a weird, magical and mystical direction.

I think there were some good ideas in grounding the mystic arts in quantum physics, time travel, philosophy and kung fu, and it certainly led to some great moments like the death of the Ancient One or the Mirror Dimension chase. But grounding may have been the wrong idea. When you look at Strange's magic skills in Infinity War versus his own film, even with the Russos generally working with the same rules and restrictions Derrickson had come up with, they were still able to whip that magically strangeness (no pun intended) that the character is more associated with.

I find this odd because most of the concept art for Doctor Strange shows the film could have been capable of the same thing. I think Derrickson or Feige may have chickened out and didn't feel confident in immediately going all the way with Strange and magic because the MCU for the most part has been grounded enough and has found a way to explain almost all their concepts (by science). But now the Russo's did show they didn't need to explain everything with Strange, probably because they realised a movie like Infinity War is extremely crazy and there's no point holding back.

So Derrickson needs to prove he can follow suit. Don't hold back with that craziness. It may raise some questions about the first movie (like why didn't the Ancient One, former Sorcerer Supreme, display any of this kind of power), but ultimately it would make Strange a more unique character.
