BLACK PANTHER Actress Angela Bassett Confirms Ramonda & Shuri Survived AVENGERS: INFINTIY WAR

By the time the credits rolled on Avengers: Infinity War, a number of characters had met their demise, but it was unclear if Ramonda and Shuri had survived. Thankfully, that question has now been answered.

Avengers: Infinity War racked up a high death toll by having Thanos wipe out half the universe, and while we saw many fan-favorites perish in front of us, the status of a few characters like Ramonda and Shuri remained a mystery.

Fortunately, while promoting Mission: Impossible – Fallout, actress Angela Bassett revealed the fate of T’Challa’s mother and her on-screen daughter played by Letitia Wright.

“No.” Bassett told Screen Rant when asked if her character died. “Neither did my daughter. Shuri, she's a bright girl there in Wakanda. So…”

This comment from the Black Panther star means fans of the two can breathe a sigh of relief, but they don’t reveal if they'll have a large role in Avengers 4. That said, it would be interesting to see how they respond to the fallout from the Marvel film. Who knows, maybe we'll even see Shuri don the Black Panther mantle.

What do you make of this news? Do you think Shuri and Ramonda will factor into the plot of Avengers 4? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

That would explain why Bassett was in the photoshoot. Every character in that apparently is in either Infinity War or Avengers 4, and so far the only ones not to are Ant Man, The Wasp, Hawkeye and his wife, Happy (who was in a deleted IW scene apparently), Ramonda and Hank Pym

I hope Letitia Wright is a big part of the MCU moving forward. There are a lot of ways they could take the character (some have wanted Ironheart, but I think nahh). She should stick around long enough to become her own version of the panther. Whether they call her Black Panther or not. I mean just look at how badass this outfit is:

She was great in the last episode of the most recent season of Black Mirror too btw, for anyone who hasn't seen it:

@L0RDbuckethead - Im hoping her arc has her become more spiritual and learning to embrace the mystical.
Would be a nice juxtaposition with her tech savyness.

If she did become Queen, she would need to become in tune with that sort of stuff. Her natural inquisitiveness would maybe make her want to learn all there is about the mystical aspects of Wakanda.

Its a nice homage to her 2015 resurrection in the comics too. Mixing mysticism and science, Shuri was restored to life.

@Nebula - I'd be down, I'm not ready for a new Iron Man quite yet. I wanna see if they decide to kill Tony or make him SHIELD director or what. I'm sure we'll find out in A4.

@BlackBeltJones - OH definitely. I predict we'll see her visting the Djalia somehow, and communicating with Black Panthers of the past.

I haven't read that 2015 comic. Any good?

@L0RDbuckethead - I liked it a lot. Basically, the
Coates run takes stock and realizes that if an adventuring, warrior/mad scientist actually DID ever rule a country, probably that country would fall apart in about five seconds. And eventually, people, especially as intelligent and free thiking people as Wakandans, tire of a monarchy.

Its a very heady read.

Having the Shuri in the films visit the DJALIA and commune with the ancestors would be soemthing.

In the comic, Shuri, prior to her resurrection, is stuck between life and death and wanders the astral plane. The comic spends a lot of time with Shuri on her spiritual journey, which adds mythic resonance to the superhero story and allows the story to riff on themes from African history and mythology. I would love to see this in a movie.

@BlackBeltJones - Damn, I'll definitely have to check that run out. I know a lot more about older comics. I find it hard to keep up these days with TV and other various forms of media.

But yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking. It would be a great reason to show off some older BP mythos and with Shuri such a popular character, it's perfect. I'm really intrigued to see where Feige and Coogler decide to take the King of Wakanda.

At the 10th Anniversary of the MCU, Feige talked about the sequel and said:

"Nothing specific to reveal, other than to say we absolutely will do that. One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a Part One and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a Part Two. There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first Black Panther. We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one."

Q: You opened Black Panther with a prologue set in 1992. I wondered if we might expect more hero stories to be set in that time period going forward?

A: "I would say no. I mean, in terms of Captain Marvel and a young T’Chaka in ’92, no. That’s not where we’re headed. But we would talk about the ancestral plane sequence [in Black Panther] where, towards the end of the movie, T’Challa takes the herb again and encounters his father, where he’s like, 'Hey, man. We’ve kind of screwed up, and I want to change it.' There’s that moment where all of the ancestors come behind T’Chaka. We would joke and go, 'I want to see … what’s their story? What’s that story? Who was Bashenga, the first king of Wakanda? Who’s that third to the left, behind T’Chaka? What was their story in Wakanda in 1938? That would be cool.' It all starts as conversations like that. The more audiences want to see these stories, the more opportunities we have to explore different places and time."

Q: Usually, we get three stand-alone movies for a single hero, then some team-ups. But is there potential in Black Panther beyond that? I see people saying, 'I want a Dora Milaje movie. I would like a Shuri movie.' Do you see more potential there, or do you think you’ll stick with that kind of three-act structure that you’ve followed in the past?

A: "I think there’s lots of potential. It’s a balance between leaving people wanting more and then giving them too much, but I would watch a movie about any of those characters you just named. I think Shuri’s astounding, and you’ll see much more of her in our universe. Okoye, I think I’d watch three action films just Okoye. I’m not saying we’re doing that, but I’m saying that we’re intrigued by them. Frankly, as I’ve said before, finishing these first 22 movies is really all we’re thinking about at this point."

Sorry that was long, but yeah, there's definitely way more Shuri to come, and it looks like we'll be getting the ancestral plane more too.

@L0RDbuckethead - comixology, if you don't have it, I find it useful and easy to use when needing to catch and keep up with some modern runs.

I get a weekly pull fro. My comic shop but i still cant keep up with all that i want to read. Comixology is a nice fall back. Sometimes I'll wait for the full volumes to drop too.

@L0RDbuckethead - I hate getting rid of my comics, so comixology gives me the excuse to download and not have to literally toss anything.

Worst feeling is having to clean your bookshelf and make room. That means tossing something.
