SPOILERS: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - 8 Moments From The Trailers You Won't See In The Movie
Avengers: Infinity War is a long movie but that doesn't mean that every shot from the trailer made the final cut! In fact, there are some huge sequences which ultimately vanished from the epic ensemble...
While movies like Justice League and Solo: A Star Wars Story have been plagued by numerous reports about reshoots fundamentally changing the nature of them, it's rare to ever hear anything concerning about a release from Marvel Studios. With Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 shooting back to back, we were probably never going to hear much about the former undergoing reshoots anyway!
Despite that, there were still some scenes in the trailers for Avengers: Infinity War which failed to make the final cut. Some were relatively minor and others were clearly intended to be key moments once upon a time but the one thing these all have in common is that we don't know whey they vanished!
What you'll find here then is a look at all the scenes we've noticed weren't in the movie and our take on why they might have been scrapped. We definitely think you'll be surprised by some of these so all you guys need to do to check out the entire list is click on either one of the buttons down below.
Thor Powers Up
As you may recall, The Avengers featured Thor powering up after being sent hurtling from the Helicarrier by Loki and the same thing was clearly supposed to happen in this movie as well. However, there's no sign of anything even remotely resembling this shot. Instead, the Russos tease us by showing a dying God of Thunder's hand twitch as a completed Stormbreaker lies feet away from him.
Thor doesn't then reappear until the Battle of Wakanda and it's easy to see why the filmmakers ditched this scene. As cool as it would have been, his sudden arrival made for a far more cinematic moment and while it wasn't shocking (there's no way Thor was going to die), it worked really well.
Bruce Banner Works On The Hulkbuster
In what was clearly meant to be a reunion between Bruce Banner and the Black Widow, we see the former working on the Hulkbuster armour as these two former lovers prepare to talk things over after he went missing at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Unfortunately, they're never given the chance to discuss things in this movie and we never learn where the armour comes from.
Did Bruce have a way of calling down the Hulkbuster from one of Iron Man's armouries? Did he build it from scratch in Wakanda? Will he and Natasha ever give things another go or is that particular (and controversial) plot thread dead? Here's hoping we find out when Avengers 4 is released.
Thanos Has His Fun
"Fun isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe but this does put a smile on my face."
That line was uttered by the Mad Titan in one of the earliest trailers for Avengers: Infinity War and it sold us all on what a terrifying villain he is. However, it's nowhere to be found in the movie itself.
Why not? Well, it turns out that Thanos takes no pleasure in what he's doing. The villain is simply trying to save the universe in a very disturbing way which he 100% believes is the right thing to do. Despite that, he's clearly conflicted from start to finish and takes no fun in anything he does, even when he's giving Iron Man a beating. Chances are this was line was only ever meant to be for the trailers.
The Money Shot
That's right, the imagery Marvel used to sell this movie to us is nowhere to be found. Is that a result of extensive reshoots which reshaped the final act or was this only ever put in there for marketing purposes? We may never know but I can't actually imagine where this would have fit into things, especially as the scenes in the forest don't really lend themselves to a major battle like this.
Throw in the fact that The Hulk doesn't appear at all in the final act and it's beginning to look like this awesome shot was filmed solely for marketing purposes. That makes sense because as epic as the final battle is, there aren't really any scenes like this which could have been used without spoiling key plot points. Either way, it was definitely surprising not to see this at any point in proceedings.
Look To The Skies
Seeing as Bruce and Natasha actually never get their moment to look back on where things went wrong between them, it probably shouldn't surprise you to learn that this scene was also scrapped. What are they all looking at? Well, I'm not sure what War Machine would be doing there but the heroes are clearly watching the arrival of the Outriders after Thanos sends them to Wakanda.
A Spectacular Change To Spider-Man
There was an awful lot going on during the scenes set on Titan so I may have got this wrong but I believe this sequence actually featured the wall-crawler with his additional Iron Spider arms out and Mantis in two as he attempted to navigate through the remains of the planet, all while protecting Star-Lord and Drax after the Mad Titan used the Infinity Gauntlet to send the Guardians packing!
It's hardly surprising that Marvel would choose to edit this scene because it would have given far too much away about the role Spider-Man plays during this exciting fight scene set on Thanos' homeworld.
The Infinity Stones
This scene was actually in Avengers: Infinity War, albeit with one crucial change. At this point in the movie (as you can tell from the background, the scene is set on Titan), Thanos actually has FOUR Infinity Stones, not two. The only ones he needs next are the Time Stone and Mind Stone, so you can appreciate why Marvel wouldn't want us to know that and the fact he's gained the Soul and Reality Stones by this stage. It's a marketing trick and one which helped us all avoid getting spoiled.
Rocket And Groot's Reaction
Seeing as we never got to see Thor transform into the God of Thunder again, both Rocket's startled reaction to that and Groot's look of shock ended up on the cutting room floor. This is an admittedly minor alteration but one it might have been nice to see, especially as Rocket would have no doubt been blown away by seeing the full extent of the hero's powers once he'd gotten the Stormbreaker.
Ultimately, Avengers: Infinity War did pretty well when it comes to scenes in the trailers which were cut from the movie. While it was shockingly easy to lose count with Justice League, this release clearly went through a normal number of reshoots and only used certain moments in marketing materials because it actually made sense.
