Avengers: Infinity War is finally in theaters, the third installment in the Avengers series and nineteenth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The director of both The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon, recently discussed his thoughts on the most recent entry in the massive franchise.
The Hollywood Reporter asked how Infinity War feels compared to six years ago, when he directed the first Avengers film; Whedon admitted that he's both excited to see the culmination of 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while also being a little envious of it.
I'm less tired, and exicted because I don't know what happens, and, you know, a little jealous.
THR's follow-up question allowed Whedon to elaborate on what about this third Avengers film had sparked his feelings of jealousy.
Well, [The Russo Bros] got the Guardians in there, and every living human being who wasn't in a Harry Potter movie is in this film. I don't envy them the gig - there's a reason I said two and out - but I do wish I had gotten to play with those characters a little bit.
That's a pretty understandable statement from someone in Whedon's position. Tackling the task of bringing the first Avengers film was a monumentally successful challenge. Though Whedon couldn't top his efforts in the first sequel, his contributions will go down in history as significant landmarks in the franchise's history.
