The Russo Brothers Confirm That AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - PART 1 & 2 Will Eventually Be Retitled

While Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 & Part 2 are perfectly fine titles, it sounds like both installments will be receiving major upgrades before they hit theaters in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

With the impending release of Captain America: Civil War, directors Anthony and Joe Russo are riding into the highly anticipated two-part Avengers: Infinity War on a major high.

When Marvel Studios initially announced Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2 back in late 2014, many assumed the films would follow a similar structure as established by the two-part finales to the Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Divergent franchises by splitting one giant story into two movie-length segments. However, over the past few months, the Russo Brothers have maintained that this wouldn't entirely be the case and that the two Infinity Wars, due out in 2018 and 2019, would actually tell very different stories with one common villain - Thanos.

The dynamic directing duo once again reiterated that "the movies are two very different movies" while speaking with UPROXX recently and shared another very interesting tidbit when asked if they thought the "Part 1" and "Part 2" subheadings were a tad misleading, to which Anthony replied: "It is misleading" before Joe clarified and revealed that the films would ultimately be retitled: "The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.” Whether this means the films lose the Infinity War subtitle entirely or if they add a secondary subheading following Infinity War is yet to be seen.

Considering only one film in recent memory - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - has been able to successfully pull off a two-part franchise finale with both widespread critical acclaim and billion-dollar box office success as well as the mixed reactions to the splitting of the Hunger Games and Divergent finales, this should be welcome news for audiences as it promises to bring us two very unique films that will tell their own stories and be able to stand on their own independent of the other. Additionally, writer Stephen McFeely, speaking with Fandango, assures fans that, unlike Harry Potter, they'll have no idea what's coming in either film: "It’s not like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games where so many people know what the story is and they know where you’re cutting it, and so therefore they know how much is left, [With Infinity War], no one will know anything."

So, what do you guys think? Which subtitles would you like to see? Sound off with your thoughts below!

How big of a threat does Thanos pose, you ask? Big enough to span two epic films, beginning with Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1” on May 4, 2018, and concluding in Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2” on May 3, 2019 for one massive cinematic event.

“We’ve always had a plan since Nick Fury broke into Tony Stark’s house and told him he’s part of a bigger universe," recalled Feige. "'Avengers: Infinity War Part 1' is the beginning of the culmination of everything that has come before."
