INFINITY WAR Actor Mark Ruffalo Says That Hulk's First Encounter With Thanos Will Have Major Ramifications

One of the battles fans are most looking forward to in Avengers: Infinity War is Thanos vs. The Hulk, and Mark Ruffalo has now given us some idea of what we can expect when the two behemoths throw-down...

Hulk is strongest one there is... but with the full might of the Infinity Gauntlet behind him, Thanos is stronger.

This has already been confirmed by The Russo Brothers, and fan-anticipation to see two of the most powerful beings in the universe go one-on-one is now at an all-time high. However, it sounds like we're in for a lot more than a simple punch-fest when The Mad Titan and The Green Goliath do eventually square-off.

Speaking to Screen Rant, Bruce Banner actor Mark Ruffalo suggested that the pair's first encounter will have wide-ranging ramifucations for not just these characters, but the entire movie and its untitled follow-up:

“Well, uh, that’s, that’s tricky. It definitely has ramifications. He’s definitely, he’s never met, uh, another opponent quite like that and um, uh, their first encounter sort of a propels what will be, you know, the rest of these next two movies. So, um, and then what ends up happening between Bruce and The Hulk.”

Ruffalo is obviously being careful to avoid spoilers here, but even these vague hints will undoubtedly lead to massive speculation.

We assume Banner will first encounter Thanos at the start of the film when The Mad Titan attacks The Asgardian refugee ship. Will The Hulk wind up seeking vengeance for something he witnesses there, perhaps?

We don't have long to go until we find out, as Avengers: Infinity War is set to hit theaters this week!

Well, Ruffalo just confirmed that Avengers 4 is Infinity War part 2.

@GreedoSarducci - What? No lol
Every single Marvel movie has had consequences and repercussions that affected the next Marvel movie.

That's like saying Infinity War is Civil war 2, because Cap's story arc continued into it

@Vigor - Ruffalo says "their first encounter sort of propels what will be, you know, the rest of these next two movies"

He's taking about Thanos, implying that his story will span the next two films. That's as close to a confirmation of a Part 2 that we've had yet.

@GreedoSarducci - But we always knew Thanos was in Avengers 4. Russo brothers and Feige have said several times that Avengers 4 is a unique story. There may be fallout from Infinity War sure, but it's not "Infinity War 2". Make sense?

@Vigor - I guess we'll find out next May!

@Vigor - okay, I've seen the spoilers. A4 is MOST DEFINITELY going to be Part 2.

"Unique story" was misdirection.

@GreedoSarducci - I just saw the movie. Avengers 4 will pick up from the consequences of Avengers 3. Just like how every Marvel movie has done; they're all connected.

I mean we're arguing semantics at this point but if Avengers 4 is NOT told through the eyes of Thanos, then to me it's not part 2 of a 2-part story. Russos have said it's a completely different feeling movie. Sure it'll have Thanos, and a gauntlet... but it's not part 2 of a large movie. You cant stitch the two movies together and have it seamlessly blend. It'll seem like 2 different movies played back to back, not 1 long one. Make sense?

Maybe once the Hulk sees that there are fights he just can't win with brute force he lets puny Banner use some brain power .

@thunderforce - I like this a lot. My theory was quite literally the opposite of yours...
That Bruce and Hulk split physically. But this kinda makes a lot of sense to have them work better together to take on someone like Thanos

Ruffalo is the biggest MCU spoiler, so he knows the sniper sights are set. Judging off the trailers alone, Thanos is gonna bring havoc to the Asgardians, brutalize Thor, and therefore Hulk as well, kill Loki, and then the movie goes from there.

Maybe he winds up reverting hulk back to thanos or what if the hulk sides with thanos as he showed he wasn't too fond of the Avengers in Ragnarok. It's far fetched I know but I can't see it being hulk scared of thanos. Has that happened before?

In the comics we've never seen Thanos and Hulk have a brutal fight with each other. I mean a fight that shakes the very cosmos.

@DeadWade213 - I have a feeling we'll get a cosmos-shaking fight with capt marvel and thanos.

Like Goku learning ultra instinct and finally giving Jiren a challenge

My guess is that Hulk will be the one bringing the good news of Thanos after their fight to earth when he lands in the sanctum sanctorum

AS a Hulk fan I will love that scene. Can't wait :)

BUT Only the Hulk can survive a slap like that from Thano's all others would die.

Even if Hulk is unconscious you know he will be getting back up and completely uninjured.

I think Thanos will separate Banner from the Hulk with the Reality Stone. Like literally rip them apart and that's why Banner has to hop into the Hulk Buster armor.
