With various casting updates coming in thick and fast over the last few months, many fans guessed that we would probably see Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. on the small screen at some point in 2013. Well, in an interview with PREVIEWSworld recently, Marvel Head of Television and comic book writer Jeph Loeb (Spider-Man: Blue, Ultimatum) revealed when exactly we should expect to see it next year. "We have a "little" pilot for television that you might have heard about called Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. co-written, directed, and Executive Produced by none other than Joss Whedon! Working with Joss, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell on the show is a blast! And bringing in Clark Gregg to play Agent Phil Coulson — the best! Hopefully we will be on in the Fall of 2013 on ABC!" So, no real surprises there, but this is the closest we've had to actual confirmation of an air date up until this point. How excited are you guys for S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Also, fall 2013 seems too far off for S.H.I.E.L.D. to premiere. Hopefully, it'll be worth the wait.

Silly question, never read much of Marvel besides X-Men but what exactly might be the main storyline to drive a SHIELD series. I know there won't be superheroes like Cap etc. so would this series have a Without A Trace vibe just its Marvel?

This is going to be pretty good, but Im not going to expect too many superhero/villian appearances. Mostly drama between the agents. I'm optimistic though.

Guys need to show more respect to Jeph Loeb. He may have screwed up the Ultimate universe, but he's responsible for one of, if not THE best Batman tale of all time - The Long Halloween.

The only thing that concerns me is that Clark Gregg is only being mentioned as playing Agent Coulson only in the pilot and not the series, unless I'm misinterpreting that they are only producing a pilot in hopes of getting a series.

Me, I'm sure it'll be good.... but I don't have time to watch it. Which sucks, because this sounds like THE new show that I would otherwise sit my ass down to see every week.

"Your ass is grass" means I am going to kill you. You know, because you'll be buried under the grass?

This confirms nothing... it's a pilot for the 2013-2014 season. It all depends on whether or not A) the network picks the pilot up to series and B) if they decide to save it until mid-season (which would be 2014) IF they do. No one knows where the show will land until pilot-pick-ups and next season's scheduling is actually done... and that won't happen until May. This isn't news.

With that being said, I'd be shocked if this series doesn't get picked up for a fall 2013 premiere. I mean, the pilot would have to be pretty terrible for this not to get picked up considering the success The Avengers had in theatres.

I also think Loeb will be involved in so much as he's a guy who oversees the business aspect of the series. He can balance what they can do creatively with what they can do practically on the budget they have.

What I love about a SHIELD tv series is, they can jump into any genre, one week they can have magic, the next: aliens, the next: street level superhumans, next: proper world threatening supervillains AND the show can feature all of the villains who are too small to use in the movies

as Intruder said, the potential for this show could be amazing

I have very high hopes for this show! It really sucks the premiere date is so far away.

With Joss Whedon at helm, this show has through the roof potential.

@Shara S.H.I.E.L.D. is the top government agency in Marvel comics. They do covert operations that involves taking on terrorist groups, supervillains, and extraterrestrial threats.

I would say Flashpoint mixed with Marvel comics is the best way to describe the TV show. It will be a lot of fun.

Fanboys are really all about 'what have you done for me lately?'. Loeb's marvel work sucks and his tv experience is shotty at the very best, but his DC stuff is rock solid. Long halloween is still one of the best Bat books out there. Have the Nolan nut grabbers fortten that plenty of ideas and even lnes of dialogue were taken directly from his books. He is very hit or miss, but when he's good, he's very good.
