Kevin Feige On IRON MAN 3 Casting Rumors, INCREDIBLE HULK After Credits Scene And More

Kevin Feige looks back at the difficulties of finding a way around The Incredible Hulk's after credit's scene and also comments on the Ben Kingsley in Iron Man 3 rumours.

Talking to The Huffington Post, Kevin Feige has revealed the difficult position Marvel Studios found themselves in after getting Tony Stark to cameo at the conclusion of The Incredible Hulk. The scene appeared to indicate the The Avengers would have featured the team going after the Hulk (a possibility as Zak Penn was then working on a script before Joss Whedon came in and rewrote it).

"The truth of the matter is, we were very concerned about painting ourselves into a corner -- and didn't do it. And if we found a fork in the road and had a really cool idea, one of which paints us into a corner and one of which would just progress the story we need to tell the movie, we always went in the direction of telling the story we needed to tell. I will say that the Tony Stark cameo in "The Incredible Hulk" required us to [laughs] get ourselves out of a corner," he revealed. "We do not follow up on that scene in the narrative in any of the subsequent features. But, for fans, which are really the only people going, "Hey, wait a minute. What about when Tony Stark walked into the room and talked to General Ross?" There's a short film on the "Captain America" DVD that wraps that up and explains that. So, all the dots are connected and most of them didn't paint us into a corner. But I would say that is probably the closest one that almost did."

As for the recent rumours that Ben Kingsley is in talks to play Iron Man 3's villain, the Marvel Studios president remained vague. "There are rumors online that we're in negotiations with Ben Kingsley. Marvel doesn't confirm any of our casting until it's all completely done. And, even at that point, not talking about the characters is something ... I love that there's a "Star Trek" movie in production right now and I have no idea who the new characters are or who the villains are. I would love to be able to follow that mold for the next few movies that we make."

If they went after the Hulk this would just end up being a live action Ultimate Avenger movie. They might as well have used the same script.

I hope that HAWKEYE is CAPTAIN AMERICA's partner in the CA:TFA sequel rather than the FALCON, because it will give Jeremy Renner a bigger meatier role than in THE AVENGERS. You want to keep a great actor like that happy. The FALCON I would like to see in a later CAP sequel.

That was a hard hump climb over but they did it well, and with great humor, hopefully what I read was true and that humor is done just enough

@Yoss - I could swear I heard that the studio that has him is working on a script, so probably not likely.

I think they did a good job reversing course from them going after Hulk.
The shorts did tie up them loose ends.

Can't wait for May 4th... I want to see the end credits and extra scene!

If this Avengers movie does well, and obviously it will, Disney is set to enter into negotiations to purchase Sony Pictures Div. involving Marvel characters, and upon success of that will enter into talks concerning their properties at Fox. Marvel has plans for something BIG to happen by 2018(Avengers 3),they need all they own to do it right.

Folks, we're getting a Hulk movie in about 2 years, it's called Avengers 2. Hulk apparently works better in a team-up movie anyway, so the Avengers films might be the best way to showcase his character.
SotNatt
SotNatt - 4/14/2012, 3:02 PM
I agree. Though it would be nice to see the Falcon, but the idea of them not using Hawkeye again until The Avengers 2 kinda sucks.
WarnerBrother

Sony will likely give Ghost Rider back in a few years so the only thing they could negotiate over would be Spider-Man which does't seem realistic. Spider-Man is a
huge film franchise and Sony doesn't have all that many in it's stable as it is.

Why would they give up a tentpole that could be a part of their summer release plans for the next decade over a one time cash buy out?

That goes even more for Fox who has reset X-Men with rising stars like Michael Fassbender,James Mcavoy and Jennifer Lawrence who can lead the series for the rest of the decade.Maybe they will give back Daredevil, but X-Men is,and Fantastic Four could be huge money making series for Fox.

I chalk MarkV's post up to wishful thinking.

I don't think they painted themselves in a corner with the need to bullshit out of it. Stark saying "I hear you have a green problem" or whatever does not conflict with "We're putting together a team". I never really got the sense that the team was specifically for the HULK. It works more as a continued theme from when Fury broke into his house.

And even if the idea WAS to go after HULK, THOR and Avengers will simply suggest they haven't found the dude until now.

wasn't the stark scene in the hulk before the credits?

I didn't take the incredible hulk after scene as the avengers going after the hulk. I thought stark was trying to tell Ross he can end his problem by getting hulk to join the avengers.

@Saxowolf...that was bad ass is there a part 3 yet?

Don't care if there was an inference that a team would be formed and go after Hulk. All I care is that there was an inference that a team would be made and now we are getting an Avengers movie!

the ONLY way to rectify Banner's recasting and re-incorporating TIH with the rest of the marvel studios' movies, including The Avengers, is to have cast William Hurt as Gen. Ross in the team-up movie..or actually shoot that scene, in the I Am Iron Man comic book, where Ross first met Tony, which explained the bitterness between the two, shown in the end scene of TIH.
loki668
loki668 - 4/15/2012, 2:34 AM
The best way to handle it would be to have Hurt's General Ross walk into SHIELD HQ, look at Banner and say "awwwwwwww......I can't stay mad at you! GETOVERHERE!!!" Followed by a hug and an affectionate noogie from Ross to Banner. Tears would flow and Oscars would be won.
