Joss Whedon had absolutely nothing to do with their being and Avengers movie. It was Marvel's idea all along to bring together their lesser known properties to make one super movie to compete with Spider-man, Batman and the X-Men franchises.

If Whedon had done Batman, it may have been more DC universe friendly. Meaning he probably would have made it easier to introduce a Superman and a Wonder Woman into that world.

But I doubt any Batman fan is going to complain.

@SaintSpidey

They are lesser known Super Hero's. When you ask a random person who is Batman's greatest villain, or Supermans they can tell you instantly. When you ask them to name a Spider-man villain most people can do so just as easily. If you ask anyone to name a rogue, or story arch from Thor, Captain America or Iron Man it will take them awhile. They were never as popular as Spider-man, Batman, Superman, or even The X-Men. That is why Marvel got them back, because the studios didn't think they could make a viable profit off them. Granted they were wrong, but that is another conversation.

Outside of Iron Man, the other movies were moderate successes that didn't exactly get everyone talking. However, I think The Avengers will.

Plus I for one don't want to see a Justice League movie. Something like that is better left to the comics or a cartoon show where you can properly flesh out the characters and devote the proper amount of screen time for each. Having a Team of Iron Man, Captain America The Hulk and Thor, is a little different from having a team of Batman, Superman, Wonder and Wonder Woman. Not too mention having to add Martian Man Hunter, Green Lantern and The Flash to the Fold. Too many characters, not enough screen time. I'm happy with the Batman franchise we have and am very excited for the upcoming Superman franchise. I commend Marvel for doing this with The Avengers, but I would pass on a Justice League film.

I still want to see Darkseid on film. But who's film would it be?

@Giraffehead

I think he would make an awesome Superman villain, and I hope Snyder and Nolan use him. I just don't think a Justice League movie could be done right on screen. It would be so rushed and forced, that I would much rather stronger solo efforts. Just like I think adding many more characters to the Avengers could derail the narrative. I understand you need ant man and wasp, but the more characters you add the less screen time the big boys get. Sometimes fans can get too greedy.

RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 3/26/2012, 1:49 AM
I think they should add ant-man, wasp and The Black Panther. I still think it will be a tough time dividing 170 minutes between Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Wasp, Black Panther, Nick Fury, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Ant Man. Not to mention properly develop villain and the ancillary characters.

I can see future Avengers movies becoming riddled with heroes. For now I just want to enjoy this one. Honestly they can start killing off Avengers as they go, would add some suspense and help limit heroes.

Awesome cant wait, the Nolanites are 'really' shitin bricks right now- scared and hoping for the impossible to happen to the franchise (which is for it to fail) I dont have a thing to worry about, im fully confident that this is gonna be the biggest thing this year with TDKR closely behind it, I know it really sucks to be a Nolanite right now, I can just feel the hate, May May 4th come speedily.

@RFBD I agree that the JLA would need strong solo movies before. That to me also implies a shared cinematic universe. And WB's almost seemingly non-existant plan for their DC film properties has previoulsy stated that JLA will not be part of the Nolanverse or the Snyder Superman reboot. Which is a shame and IMO makes a JLA live-action movie more prone to failure.

I say so what if they copy Marvel's formula with strong solo films that all lead up to one monumental and epic film. I think the fans deserve more.

6of13 - 3/26/2012, 8:15 AM
I think a JLA movie should use the split-narrative structure that was used in LOTR, but not before setting it up with a strong solo movies.
SotNatt
SotNatt - 3/26/2012, 8:28 AM

@6of13 It really all comes down to Superman. If they made a proper Superman, in a world consistent with that of a Batman film and then a Wonder-Woman film (which would be a first), then I'd be all down for a great split-narrative piece.

It's seems to me though that the WB keeps getting everything wrong when they've had more opportunities to get everything right, and the Green Lantern sure didn't help.

Not only that, but, though I thoroughly enjoy Nolan's vision of Batman, it's not accessible to the rest of the DCU, even elements of Batman you couldn't really do without it coming across as crazier than they already are.
