Your thoughts at the end are some of the reasons why I prefer Avengers over TDKR. Don't get me wrong, I like TDKR as well, but one reason I liked Avengers over it was the fact that Avengers was willing to take risks and it wasn't ashamed of being what it was: a CBM! Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing for TDKR. Just my opinion, though.

The Avengers was a movie made for comic fans. It worked on all the levels it set out to. It was the ultimate popcorn flick. Dark Knight rises (though I did like it) was TOO dark. Bane was a joke for me as soon as I heard his Sean Connery imitation. But no matter what I'm happy for all the super hero movies they have made and are going to make. (Yes even Green Lantern) When I grew up in the late 60's and 70's I would wish but never imagine them making a super Hero movie. I'm just happy they are. Here's to hoping the new Supes movie makes him everything he's supposed to be just like they did for the Hulk in the Avengers.

@Intruder, people who read comics are more on this site than most of the sites.

spot on. Totally agree, I love Batman, I love Nolans movies, but I can't call them a CBM (apart from Batman Begins), TDK was more of a crime thriller than "the best cbm ever made", also Batman is meant to be the greatest detective in the world.... don't really see much of that in the movies. TDKR was a great movie, but Avengers was a great comic book movie.

The Avengers was great for what it was but lets not act like its in the same level as The Godfather. The truth is no comicbookmovie is.

I agree with the majority of their points. I didn't notice anything in the movie that required you to read the tie in comics though. Heck, the only thing that sticks out that isn't explained in the movie is how hulk is more tame in the final battle. And that's explained in TIH, outside of that there isn't much you need to know going into the film.

Also, are they really docking the waitress who had one line in the entire film? c'mon

It doesn't hold up as well as it used to in repeat viewings FOR ME. I now fast forward the first 1/4 of the movie if I feel like seeing it again. Still in my top 5 though.

@avengers do what if he doesn't read comics. I would bet about 9/10 people that you asked in a theater if they have read any comics for the cbm they are seeing and the answer would be no. Most people could are less about source material but whether the movie is actually good.

When I first saw The Avengers I loved it; and when I saw it a second time I loved it, but now the more I see it, the more I'm annoyed by it. After a while the jokes get played out and the action and dialogue just isn't intriging anymore. Which I hope Joss Whedon can fix when he does The Avengers 2 because there are comicbook movies that I can look at for years and still be mesmerized. Like Spider-man 2, 300, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and even The Amazing Spider-man.

Joss Just has to work more on the drama and not the comedy so much to hold the movie together next time

@TheYoungMan I do agree that you really can't compare Nolan's Bat films to movies like Iron Man and Avengers. Apples and oranges, I say. Personally, I think they're both good in their own ways (even though I do prefer Avengers over TDKR).

However, I really wouldn't put the Nolan Bat flicks as some higher form of film-making. A more serious one? Sure, but not more artistic-like. Real artistic films to me are ones by directors such as Ingmar Bergman and Akira Kurosawa. But hey, that's just my opinion.

@TheYoungMan Okay, I can see what you're saying now. Yeah, I do agree that Nolan and Spielberg are two of the better blockbuster directors, especially Spielberg. Loved a lot of his films since I was a kid, and still do! Raiders is one of my all-time favorites haha

Personally, I enjoy Avengers just as much as I enjoy films like Raiders, Star Wars (the original trilogy), and Jurassic Park. Do I think it's on the same level as those films? Not really, but I enjoy it just as much as I enjoy those films.

Why is everthing all about Dark Knight Rises no matter the thread Avengers Dark Knight Rises Spiderman Dark Knight Rises. What is it about that movie that everyone finds so interesting it done and over with let stay on topic. This is about the Avengers let talk about this movie or the Sheild tie in tv show at least it would be relavent to the topic. Let's talk about Avengers and it plotholes which all movie have. I'll start When the Security Council override Fury's command and lauch a nuke on NYC what was that bomb going to do agaisnt the guys still coming out of the portal? Who's next?

@unknownfacts probably there would be no portal anymore cuz the bomb would destroy pretty much everything, including the cube, or at least turn it off. Or the explosion would reach through the portal and strike the upcoming aliens.

@DarkKnight23

You probably will from certain posters on this site but as someone who enjoyed Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises equally i'm cool with your honesty.

the cube emits low level gamma energy I can't really imagine that would work or else Hulk could've smashed it.The forced emotional death of Colson don't get me wrong I liked Colson but his death was more of a slap in the face to the audience then emotional like killing off a main charactor. The Avengers has plotholes like ever movie to date. Doesn't take away from how good it was.

@GoILL thank you for respecting my opinion. It's good to know someone can say something contrary to the status quo and not fall victim to a whole lot of nonsense.
