No matter how you break it down, chop it up, or finagle the numbers. Marvel Studios' The Avengers is a bona fide hit. Numbers are still coming in but as of Thursday, May 11th, the film has earned $270M+ domestically, giving it the biggest opening week of all-time and a worldwide total of $803M. According to Box office experts, by the time you read this article, the film's gross could be $1B or more. At this moment Kevin Feige, Joss Whedon and the entire Avengers cast are the proverbial golden boys (and girls) of summer and have skyrocketed Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye to new levels of fame. The next solo outings or "Phase Two", as Feige calls it undoubtedly now have an increased level of expectation in the wake of the film's astronomical success. But as Avengers frenzy winds down let's give it one more hurrah with the help of some of our celebrity friends mixed in with a little Avengers history.

“THE AVENGERS’ explosive success is well-deserved. Working with the fantastic Marvel team, headed by Kevin Feige, and a spectacularly talented cast, Joss Whedon created a story that is entertaining, suspenseful and universally satisfying. As a fan myself, I was truly blown away."
-Gale Anne Hurd (Executive Producer, The Walking Dead)

I'm surprised Mick Foley still has two thumbs to his name, let alone twelve!

They won't get much dissent from my side of the appreciation spectrum.

Seeing it again today. *BIG CREEPY GRIN*

Gail Simone (DC Comics Writer) also praised the movie. Also, Geoff John's recent tweets about having a history writing for Avengers implies he enjoyed the movie as well. If the writers can get along, why can't the fans?

I didn't know Hawkeye was a fan of Spider-Man. Pretty ironic when you think about it since he shot Spider-Man in the arm.

Loved Avengers - one thing though, I wish they didn't show the clip of Hulk catching Iron Man in the trailers and commercials. Then it would have ben epic in the theater. Instead, I knew what was going to happen. Still, way to go Joss!
