THE AVENGERS: Listen to Soundgarden's First New Song In 15 Years!

Soundgarden's new song "Live To Rise" will be featured in the end credits for Marvel's The Avengers. This is the rock bands first new song in fifteen years. Do they still deliver the goods?

"We've been hard at work on our new album, which will come out this fall. When the opportunity arose to write an original song for 'Marvel's The Avengers' film came our way, we thought it could be a cool match. We are excited to release our new song 'Live To Rise', which is also the only new song in the film."

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. With director Joss Whedon at it's helm, and an ensemble cast including Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Chris Hemsworth (Thor Odinson), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Clark Gregg (Agt. Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), with Tom Hiddleston (Loki), and Stellan Skarsgard (Professor Erik Selvig), the film releases worldwide May 4, 2012!

Meh. Sounds like they've lost a bit of edge, I guess it's to be expected with a movie soundtrack single though. Hopefully their new album will be better.

You'd think they'd pull out all the guns for their first new track in 15 years. It's a bit bland, aside from the very-Thayil solo in the middle. It's alright.

The song it'self is ok, doesn't get me jacked for the film though(which I am) not the way VR's "set me free" did for the hulk, the movie was what it was but that's one of the best tunes for a superhero movie in my opinion.

The song is not dark and gritty.

To me is great, good to hear something new from Soundgarden again!

Damn, now I remember why I hated the Seattle music scene (eff grunge). Not a fan of the old stuff, or this. I am a fan of Avengers though, and will not get up and leave when this starts playing...okay, I will not get up and leave until after the last credits have rolled and I have seen me some trademark Marvel after credit teasers.

It's generic, but every musician or band has a peak, and Sound Gardens was over 15 years ago. It's not terrible, but it's nothing special. Nothing can take away what Sound Garden was in the early 90's, but like all great acts that have come before them they are past their prime when it comes to writing new material. Cornell can still sing like a mother f*cker though, and I would go see them in concert, but it wouldn't be for new material.
