Batman Live Will Focus On The Origins Of Robin!

An interview with Nick Grace and Geoff Johns reveals that the show will focus on Dick Grayson becoming Robin as well as loads of other new details about the characters and setting...

Firstly, here are a list of interesting points that were revealed in the article:

• The show will wow audiences with aeriel acrobatics, martial arts, stunning special effects and, of course, Batman, the Batmobile and a whole host of enemies.

• The successful bid to create a live Batman show came from impresario Nick Grace, the man behind the hit show Walking With Dinosaurs.

• The stage show, with a 90-strong cast and crew, will describe how the Caped Crusader adopts orphaned circus boy Dick Grayson, who become sidekick Robin, and will showcase crooks including The Joker, The Riddler and Catwoman.

• To recreate the sweeping skyline of Gotham city, a long runway stage will take the action right into the audience and a giant 130ft video screen will provide stunning backdrops and animations to drive the story along.

Here's what the man behind the show Nick Grace had to say about the show:

"We decided against theatres because you can’t do things on a huge scale. In the arenas you can have pyrotechnics and large video screens and lots of action. An event like this deserves to be in a big space. It is not a musical, but a dramatic show with a storyline which tells the origins of Batman’s sidekick Robin. There is dialogue but the scenes are short, snappy and full of action. We basically wanted to bring the excitement of a comicbook to stage."

Here's what comic book writer Geoff Johns had to say about the show:

"The fact that it’s based on Robin’s story really lends itself to the stage. He is a circus performer who becomes a superhero. I can’t think of a better way of telling the story than with live performers."

Wow, I didn't know they were doing this in an arena, way cool, this may be something to check out.

hopefully it doesn't end up feeling or looking like one of those silly stunt shows you see at amusement parks.

This actually sounds really awesome. There are still plenty of tickets in Birmingham (the closest venue to me) so I think I might just book a few over the weekend...they're not really that expensive either at anything between £20 - £45!

@deadpool...but to get to nightwing we need to start at robin...
I don't get all the robin hate on this site...if he was such a shitty character, wouldn't DC have gotten rid of him long time ago (like they did with jason todd)
I think robin is a key character to batman's life. He is one of the reasons that keeps batman from going over the edge. Personally i'd love to see robin's growth to nightwing on film. & I think a live action film featuring Jason Todd's death and how it would play on Batman would be awesome. Batman needs to be brutal in TDKR, after all the losses he's suffered in TDK. Just on a razor's edge of going over. Only robin would be able to save him. That is IF we truly want the movies to be faithful to the comics

Is it me or does it irritate anyone else that this show is only in the UK or am I missing something? Why the hell wouldn't it be in the US first? This is where it's the most popular and where the character originated from.

@deadpool
I hope the introduction of Bucky in the Cap America: TFA movie means we get to see him evolve to Winter Soldier in future sequels or maybe spin offs.
C'mon DC get cracking, Marvel is WAAAAAY ahead of the game
