Christopher Nolan Squeezes A Clever 'Robin' Easter Egg Into THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Trailer?

We all know how ridiculous those rumours were that Robin would turn up in The Dark Knight Rises, but did director Christopher Nolan still take the opportunity to put in a clever little easter egg? Check it out.

The guys over at Cosmic Book News have spotted the following easter egg in the recently leaked trailer for The Dark Knight Rises. Can't see it? Well, neither did I, but compare the "R" in that "ROGUE" sign to that of the one on the comic book cover below. That's about as close as you'll ever get to seeing the Boy Wonder in a Christopher Nolan helmed Batman movie! What do you guys make of it? Clever easter egg or pure coincidence? As some of your have already pointed out, FANS were told to bring their own signs, but it's Nolan who chooses what footage to use in the film. Whether or not he spotted this, we may never know. Sound off with your thoughts below.

STARRING:

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman
Michael Caine as Alfred
Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox
Tom Hardy as Bane
Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake
Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate
Josh Pence as Ra's Al Ghul

RELEASE DATE: July 20th, 2012

Anyone else noticed Robin on the left side of the image?

Is it too hard for Nolan to create a very successful non campy robin with good story? It's been three movies without Robin, and it kinda feels weird to me. I'm a teenager, and I want to be able to relate myself to one of the characters in a Batman Nolan film. They're all adults dealing with very difficult, very entertaining, unreal adult situations.

I thought the Heinz Field extras could bring their OWN signs?

This was probably the work of one CLEVER FAN.

When I read the title, I thought the Easter Egg would be the boy who sings the National Anthem. Name: Dick Grayson...?

Dynamo - 12/18/2011, 3:38 PM
I was wondering when I saw the trailer. Maybe the football field attack is Nolan's version of the Grayson's Circus accident. Maybe one of the kids that are in the stands or even the singer turns out to be Robin?

I'm pretty sure it's intentional. No one makes their 'R's' like that.

asavagevandal - 12/18/2011, 3:41 PM
It's intentional...and probably as far as they should take it. I'd also be cool with a Flying Graysons poster...maybe a Haley's Circus reference...but that's about it.

JOSH!! lol whats up man how goes it?? long time no talk. Been in Australia working on a film.

Ok so been wanting to drop some knowledge on you my friend.

I dont think Robin will be in here. Nolan said he wouldnt and he doesnt say shit to just say it. BUT I DO THINK yes its a stretch but I DO THINK John Blake will take over for Bruce Wayne as Batman for a period of time or if Nolan happens to kill him off im not saying he will but you never know.

Also when it comes to bane have you noticed that Nolan is making Bane Batmans polar opposite which gives to the reason that Bane just MIGHT kill batman...think about it

Look at the Prologue. That plan sequence was a one up version on the plan sequence in TDK. He also has followers...batman had copy cats....he has tumblers...batman HAD a tumbler. The comparisons are to close for Nolan to mimic just to mimic. HE is trying to show us taht this is a man (BANE) who sees batman and calls him out on all accounts..He possibly thinks he is a phony. Bane so far from what we can tell wants to start a revolution..he says in the trailer "When gotham becomes ashes then i will give you permission to die"

Just saying theres more but I am excited I could be completely wrong we still have no idea what any of this is really all about but i am so eager to find out this summer what are your thots?

@Tinybirdcage

I think the problem with Robin as a character is that he takes away from Batman. Its like a norm to have to see Batman and Robin together. Batmans status as a dark alone hero has been kind of forgotten because of Robin. I, for one, kind of don't like that.

Why should Robin ALWAYS have to be next to Batman. Let B-man have his own shine. With that said, I do love and appreciate his character....but not all the time.

So lets leave Robin to the reboot!

I was at Heinz field, we were told to bring our own signs, this is almost certainly the work of the fan who made it. As for the boy singing the national anthem, I can't remember his name exactly, but it wasn't dick grayson.

EASTER EGG?! BAHAHAHAHAH no.

Sorry, just, no.

I'm a nolanite, a typical one at that, who will defend anything nolan, but this isn't an easter egg. I was there, and we were told to bring our own signs. Nolan had nothing to do with this being there, and probably even less to do with it being in the trailer.

my bet if they do anything AT ALL with Robin it will be a reference at the end of the film like and indefinite cliff hanger. Like Alfred talking to Bruce about him going to a fund raiser at the circus or something... Just a nod to it

I don't think he ever said he doesn't "like" Robin, he just doesn't think he fits into the stories they are trying to tell in the films.

No offense, Josh, but I pointed this out days ago when I commented on TDKR Low-Res Screen Grabs...

ErikMonroe - 12/16/2011, 2:37 PM
The little kid (with the yellow tie) singing the National Anthem will be a future Robin as his parents in the crowd will be killed by the flying shrapnel that Bane's explosions create. The R that someone holds up in the crowd is in the 'font' of the Robin logo.

..or NOT..

Now that I see the Robin logo right by it, I definitely see it.

That's a nice touch.
