Could The Next Batman Movie Be Based On DC's Current "New 52" Run?

Batman rights holder and Executive Producer Michael Uslan hints that the next incarnation of the character after Christopher Nolan's TDKR might be based on something from the DCnU, possibly Batman And Robin..

We know that Christopher Nolan will most likely step away from Batman when he completes his final movie in the franchise, The Dark Knight Rises. We also know that WB and DC Entertainment plan to continue with big screen adventures for Bats with or without Nolan. But what can we expect? Well we don't have any idea yet. Short of speculation and guess work nobody has really so much as hinted at what direction may be taken. But Producer Michael Uslan did discuss the matter with Movieweb.

Here is an excerpt from their article..

He was rather stoic when questions concerning the future of The Dark Knight arose, but he did drop a subtle hint that the next incarnation of Batman on the big screen may be based on DC Comics recently launched New 52 title Batman and Robin.

Here is what he had to say when asked what the future held for Batman on the big screen.

"The only thing I would direct your attention to is the new comic books. The comic books have kept this character vital, and intriguing, for seventy-two years. We are all still going back every Wednesday to see what's new. I think the character is that vital and that sustaining. He is going to be around for a long time to come."

Now the quotes here don't point to Batman and Robin specifically but that is what Movieweb suggest. Even if it isn't that comic in particular, could it be based on something from the DCnU? No doubt a new take on Batman may well include Robin, who many fans have been dying to see done justice on the big screen. Finally a glimpse after dark knight. Dont get me wrong, i like chris nolans films, but it doesnt do batman or his villians the opportunity they deserve. They need their comic origins (ex. instead of having joker be a serial killer with makeup, make fall into the toxic waste and have him with laugh bombs and stuff). Plus we need a real batmobile, not this tumbler bullcrap. Has dc heard of a little game called Batman Arkham Asylum? Well they need to make a movie just like that

The stories that include either Damian or Tim Drake are both so dark and fit so well into Batman's world, to see that develop in the big screen would be awsome. Dick Grayson will always be number 1 but let's be honest, we all love Nightwing ten times better. If we're lucky, we may get all three seeing how currently the roster is made up of Nightwing (Grayson) Red Robin (Drake) and Robin (Wayne). As for Todd, well that will be a nice add in too.

i'd rather they put batman on hold for at least five years,we've had seven films since 89,try sorting out the rest of the dc universe so we can get decent movies from other characters & not keep relying on batman all the time.

obviously warner won't be putting batman on hold,so if they can follow a few of these things i would be more inclined to support this movie.

-no robin.

-grey & black outfit from the comics no more armor,so we can actually see some decent fights.

-f*ck realism,i want to see different villains i.e man bat, clayface, hush, killer croc & so on.

-batmobile that looks like a batmobile

-worlds greatest detective, show it this time round.

-no stupid put on throat cancer voice.

I mean if it's gonna model the current comics, Nightwing and Red Robin would HAVE to be included in some way.

I don't think it, Movieweb say it. But then it's not included in Uslan's quotes so I'm skeptical.

I do like Damian but I dunno, I think skipping over Dick Grayson would be unfair kinda, rob us of a future Nightwing too.

look at how well they brought big daddy and hit girl to the screen...they cold successfully pull a bat and young robin if they put some severe thought and effort into it...

Agreed with "3D"! Whatever they do plz dont go through the origin story again coz you cant top Nolan's solid one.... just move on....

I like the rebooted/relaunched Batman titles.... i love the new suit and I think jumping to that point in the live-action movies would be great... I'm sick and tired of the old Robins... Damian is more interesting as Bruce's rather rogue son. And it'd be cool if the movie fatured guest appearances by Batgirl/Barbara, Nightwing and Red Hood with their back grounds tossed quickly in a few dialogues or flashbacks....

Yeah I think what is needed is the flash back intro ala Norton's Hulk and eliminate the origin retelling. The hard part of this is bringing in Robin without telling his story. Having Damian would be cool, but I just feel Dick Grayson would be better. The main reason being in order to have Damian, Bruce would have to be older. Mainly becaseu if they have Robin, they will not want a really young kid running around. It is just not going to happen. If that is the case and Damian comes in and is say 16 or so, Bruce will be around 40 or so. I am not suer how well that would go over.

Anyway, we can all speculate all day long and I could talk about it forever. We will see once they make the plans. I do feel a solid Batman and Robin movie would be freaking sweet!

I think the idea is to take from the tone of the new series. Personally, I don't like the whole idea of Batman having a biological son or that son being Robin. It doesn't seem true to the character and it would be even more ridiculous on film.

AiyalKilU - 9/19/2011, 5:04 PM
I agree with you Mark, I think this is just movieweb taking quotes out of context. Uslan pretty much said that the character has been around for many years and has different incarnations, which is a valid point. I can't think of many who started out as goth, then campy, then dark, and so on.

Starting with Damien Wayne would alienate and confuse non comic readers, IF Robin ever comes into the equation they should focus on Dick Grayson and/or Tim Drake. Skip Jason Todd, they say Batman's greatest failure was the death of Todd but we all know that Harvey Dent is the true black mark in the career of the dark knight and we've seen that story in Nolan's film expertly.

Elminate the retelling,so Flashbacks at the beginning of the movie which Bruce And Damien chase a criminal, display Damien in all his awesomeness. And later we can introduce Tim Drake and give a reference to Nightwing At The End Of The Movie. Then Begin the next movie with Nightwing on a mission issued by Bruce that ends up needing the rest of the Bat Fam.That way we can get a fight with Tim And Damien As Well and it creates alot of interesting Dynamics, Hell for giggles make the real boss at the end of the movie be controlled by Jason Todd, to Introduce him for the 3rd movie. And we have everything we want in a trilogy

I liked the idea of a dark primetime Batman 1 hour drama. As long as they take it seriously but I'm not too worried about that. They know that the Nolan treatment is what works. Imagine how cool it would be to have a live action, one hour version of the animated series every week! That would rule!

Put Robin in a movie please. Dick Grayson. just not him running around in his underwear

My concern with bringing in damian is they would have to retconn his character... would they just start the film with batman flinging around with his son. The average fan who doesnt read at all would wonder when he had a child, how did he pair up with talia, that would be difficult... would the first film have him meet talia then the next film take place 13-15 years later when he first tries fighting as robin....

IMO as long as they continue on with the timeline rather then begin again with origin story. I won't be surprised if Nolan stays on as producer and perhaps producer to all of the characters. For example, MOS, so what is it going to be a one shot movie and once completed we do since Batman is going to be in some ways rebooted. I don't think so, I think the deal will be they all continue on and Nolan will just produce and create the storylines but let loose into more comic style.

get someone who wants less to make their own batman (like nolan) and one that cane fit into a cinematic universe... we have sort of seen that Man of Steel is taking hints from the new reboot (costume) and if Batman does thhe same that may be an indication of a DC crossover at some point

Cool just keep Robin away from the big screen. Its hard to keep the grittiness that makes Batman awesome with a 13 year old kid in tights running around with him.

AlReg - 9/19/2011, 7:33 PM
I think he means writers could always take inspiration from Batman comics of today. It would be cool to see the next Batman movie have Damian Wayne or be Batman in a fantasy or science fiction setting rather than the crime fiction setting we have now. Nothing wrong with it but just the next movies will need their own identity.
