Five Actors Who Could Portray NIGHTWING

Five Actors Who Could Portray NIGHTWING

Warner Bros. can't seem to get enough Batman but maybe they should look at a slightly different type of Batman? It's high time Nightwing step into the limelight with his own movie or television show. Here's five actors who could do Dick Grayson justice.

We've seen a couple of live-action iterations of Dick Grayson as Robin but never as Nightwing. Quite frankly, Grayson becomes much more interesting and dynamic once he steps out of Batman's shadow. He'll often drop a funny quip or two while beating up the bad guys and then there's quite a few candidates to to chose from for a love interest. It's a little surprising we've yet to get a solo Nightwing show yet. But if that day comes anytime soon, here are five candidates to play him.

Tyler Hoechlin
American
25
Recognizable from: Road to Peredition (Michael Sullivan Jr.), 7th Heaven (Michael Sullivan Jr.), Teen Wolf (Derek Hale)

Robert Sheehan
Irish
25
Recognizable from: Misfits (Nathan Young)

Harry Lloyd
English
29
Recognizable from: Game of Thrones (Viserys Targaryen)

Ben Barnes
English
31
Recognizable from: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (Prince Caspian)

Alexander Ludwig
Canadian
20
Recognizable from: The Hunger Games (Cato), The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising (Will Stanton)

Nightwing is a name that has been used by several fictional characters in the DC Comics Universe. It was conceived as a Kryptonian analogue to the character of Batman, with Nightwing's frequent partner Flamebird based on Robin. The Nightwing persona originates with a Kryptonian vigilante taking the name of the "Nightwing", a bird native to the planet Krypton.

When Dick Grayson gives up his role as Robin in 1984, he recalls the Kandorian adventure and renames himself Nightwing, in homage to both Batman and Superman.

I know these sound odd, but my top picks for the role are Sam Witwer and Jared Padalecki. Ben Barnes is also my candidate, while I've never heard the rest of your picks...which is good! Love me some no-name actors for CBM roles. Great stuff.

JGL is the one that should be Nightwing if he is ever used in a movie.

I don't really agree with any of these choices, but I would actually recommend NPH. Neil voiced Nightwing in Batman: under the red hood. He has the physique to wear the tights and the comic delivery for the quips. I think he could pull it off.

Tyler Hoechlin as Nightwing.

I like the Harry Lloyd choice. Nightwing needs to be a less brooding character for sure.

No to JGL

Dick is a natural phenomenal athlete JGL doesn't give me that. He needs to look like he could do a quadruple flip when he was 10 years old. He needs to be lighthearted and fun while never complacent about ability. He needs to be charming enough that you would follow him into situations and trust him when he changes tactic mid battle. He needs a strong since of duty and self reliance.

JGL is a genius actor but he's never been physically impressive. I do understand the concept of a stuntman but my problem is in natural movement. If I had to choose from above (Dillon Casey, Tyler Hoechlin I guess)

Nightwing without Bats would be risky and WB dont seem to be taking any risks

Joseph Gordon-Levitt...I don't know, man. I absolutely love him as an actor (especially Looper), but "John Blake" is enough a CBM experience for him, I think. Putting him in the role of Nightwing may just confuse general audiences, and I'm against the idea of his character in The Dark Knight Rises to make further appearances in the future reboot movie. Not completely, but I'd rather not.

Neil Patrick Harris is another actor which I'm a big fan of, who's already in his 40's, while Nightwing is...um, Batman's apprentice. Just saying.

IM53: I know, but he's way too old for a former Batman sidekick, don't you think? Well, unless it's Batman Beyond, or The Dark Knight Returns...

The hardest part from casting a character like Nightwing is that physically, the guy has to look both believable as a former sidekick as Batman's, while also mature enough at the same time that you can actually see him one day donning the mantle of his mentor.

I've been hearing Sam Witwer's name being thrown around for the new Batman, but I know that's he's still too young-looking for the Bruce Wayne Batman. However, he is indeed a great actor who can embody Batman's characteristics easily, and he's both youthful and mature enough to fit a character like Dick Grayson. Yeah, I realize that he's closing to his late 30's, but to be fair, he still looks like he's in his early 30's! I have pretty much the same reasons for Ben Barnes.

Jared Padalecki, meanwhile, has experienced nearly everything in becoming a young hero in Supernatural. The downside is that, he's more youthful than mature in appearance, although for a big screen Nightwing (which most likely will never become the new Batman in the future), I think that's not that much of a problem.

And, what's with the sudden love for Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Again, I adore him as an actor, but don't people here put his appearance in The Dark Knight Rises into considerations?

I'd say Kevin Zegers ("Titanic: Blood and Steel", "Dawn of the Dead")

Despite his age, Matthew Bomer is already mature enough to become something more than Nightwing. And that is? Yeah, Bruce Wayne himself.

IM53: I think, I'm all for Neil Patrick Harris as Dick Grayson in the Batman Beyond universe. Especially, for his interesting arc, such as in Hush Beyond...

Tell that guy to do drama, and he'll pull it off. Great actor.

I think the best way to do it is to look for someone who could grow into Nightwing. For me the most interesting aspect of bringing Dick Grayson to life is that we can really see the character grow and evolve. Nightwing is awesome as a culmination of Dick Grayson's coming of age story and a transition into something new. As a starting point, it's not nearly as interesting.

I'm a big Nightwing fan but the character would be undermined if we were introduced to him without introducing him as Robin; a bit like how you would need to be introduced to 'Skinny Steve Rogers' before he becomes Captain America- the rich history if (condensed well) is also part of the appeal of the character, if they rush through that by skipping ahead then it robs the character of his appeal (in my eyes at least)...

Anyway, if Nightwing does make it to the big screen any time soon, I want the New 52 suit to come into play; the black and blue's a classic, but the new suit just seems more in line with the whole Robin colour scheme/motif and the rest of the Bat family's black and yellow/red look
