Jada Pinkett Smith Set To Play A Villain In GOTHAM

According to Deadline, the Matrix: Reloaded actress will be facing off against Ben McKenzie's Jim Gordon as one of the villains in Fox's upcoming Batman prequel series. Who will she be playing? You'll have to hit the jump to find out!

Prepare for a shock guys, because Deadline report that Jada Pinkett Smith will play a female version of The Joker in Fox's Gotham Series! Okay, not really - she'll actually be playing an original character not based on anyone from the DC Comics named 'Fish Mooney', who's described as "an imposing, hotheaded and notoriously sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner with street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book who is not one to be crossed". If the name is familiar it's because Mooney was mentioned as the arch-villain whom Robin Lord Taylor's Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin) will be working for. Interesting casting to say the least I'm sure you'll agree. Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome) wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer on Gotham, Danny Cannon (CSI, Nikita) directing the pilot which is expected to air this fall.

She'll probably be killed off early on in the first or second season when Cobblepot or Sionis make their bid to take over the Gotham Underworld. It would have been more interesting if this was Selina Kyle trying to play the mob or something, but nevermind.

A female Joker version might be interesting. Especially if it turns out to be Joker's mom or aunt.

Casting is beautiful for this show. It will get high ratings on that alone.

Fine. Whatever. But why are you creating original characters in an already hugely expansive comic universe? Seems like a cop out to avoid fanboy cries of a poor character interpretation by adding someone with no literary precedent. Not a good sign.
