JOKER Critics Poster Hails The Joaquin Phoenix Comic Book Movie As The Film Of The Year

That's high praise considering 2019 has given film lovers releases such as Us, Endgame and more. Following Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam, DC films appear to finally be trending in the right direction.

By all accounts, director Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix have a smash hit on their hands that should be a serious contender come award season - a feat not accomplished by a Warner Bros. comic book movie since Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.

In celebration of the film's strong reception at the Venice Film Festival and favorable Rotten Tomatoes score, a new-ish poster has been released online, touting some of the high praise and 5-star scores from film reviews.

Joker opens wide across North American theaters on October 4.

Failed comedian Arthur Fleck encounters violent thugs while wandering the streets of Gotham City dressed as a clown. Disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow dissent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.

Really looking forward to this. One month feels like too long a wait.

Still surprised a movie by the director of the Hangover series is getting this kind of reception.

@RageDriver2401 - The writer of Hangover 2 & 3 just made HBO's Chernobyl, so you never know

@RageDriver2401 - People say this a lot about Todd Phillips but keep forgetting that before The Winter Soldier, the Russos were best known for Arrested Development, Community and You, Me & Dupree

Can't wait. Joaquin Phoenix is one of the best actors around, so I'm sure this will be something special. I just need something 'different' at this point. Whether it be DC or Marvel, those films are all just becoming the same to me.

Currently, it's dropped down to 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, and I can definitely see it going lower as non-festival audiences get to it. So it's likely not going to be universally recognized as the greatest thing ever, despite the initial raves.

Still, the last trailer at least looked compelling, so I'll watch it.

@Chewtoy - It also has an incredibly high 8.68/10 average rating, so I can't see it dropping below 80%

lordSTALE - 9/5/2019, 10:28 AM
@tmp3 - It's Rotten for Top Critics with 7.2/10 rating and it's fallen more than 5% recently, so another 4% isn't that much of stretch. Just saying 🤷🏾‍♂️

Don't think so !

Joker 42 reviews at Rotten Tomatoes = 83%

65% is still my prediction.
