JOKER Is Expected To Take In Between $60 - $90 Million Over The Course Of Its Opening Weekend

Long-range domestic box office predictions for Todd Philips' standalone Joker movie are now in, and it looks like the R-rated DC movie is set for a very impressive opening weekend. More past the jump...

Initial box office projections for Joker are in, and it looks like Todd Philips' R-rated origin story for DC's iconic Clown Prince of Crime could take in between $60 and $90 million domestically over the course of its opening weekend ($77 million is the current estimate).

This means the movie could well earn more than both Aquaman ($67.8 million) and Shazam! ($53.5 million) on a reported budget of just $55 million.

Joker doesn't open until October 4, but the film has already generated quite a lot of buzz - both positive and negative. Those who have seen it offer very high praise for star Joaquin Phoenix's turn as Arthur Fleck and believe he has a good shot at an Oscar nomination. However, a leaked version of the script has also come in for some backlash because it reportedly depicts the main character - who is a mass-murdering psychopath - as a mass-murdering psychopath.

Joker also stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais and Shea Whigham. The movie's worldwide premiere takes place at the Venice Film Festival on August 31, at 7pm Central European/1pm Eastern/10am Pacific.

I will be very happy if it breaks Venom's October opening weekend record. But it may just prove too niche for mainstream audiences, which could affect its legs, even if it gets Awards buzz.

@TheOtherOn - if that is true version of movie of script you can’t judge movie bully it’s rating from strangers and critics by reading about it you can only judge movie by its trailer and see movie for your one self make your own opinion do people forget easily don’t judge book by its cover and its reviews by strangers

If this gets great reviews, DC would have lowkey made three likeable films in a row.

Aquaman, Shazam, now this.

I see you, DC.

@KWilly - 4 solo in a role once you take away justice league. I don’t think they really made a bad solo CBM in DCEU

@KWilly - if it gets good reviews it means shit reviews do not make movies money it is people who see movies that make them money transformers sequels back to back made billion listen to reviews on movies is same as judge book by its cover and to have strangers who you do not know never met in person never talk to have them treat you as little kid what you should do in life what to see, eat, what job you should get what type car you should what place you should live in where to live how you should dress
