JOKER Director Todd Phillips Shares Our First Look At Joaquin Phoenix As "Arthur"

Now, The Wrap reports that veteran actor Brett Cullen (The Dark Knight Rises, Narcos, The Shallows) has replaced Baldwin as the father of The Batman.

Will the character still be depicted as "a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump?" That remains to be seen, but now that production is underway there's always a chance we'll get a glimpse of Cullen on set at some point.

Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime, with Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Marc Maron all on board for supporting roles.

Would’ve preferred Baldwin but Cullen is a solid backup.

@MiVigilante - Yeah I could see myself getting more excited about this if Wayne wasn't in it at all. No Wayne, no Gordon, no Flying Graysons, maybe a Harvey Bulllock or pre-undead Solomon Grundy.

MiVigilante - 9/17/2018, 11:55 AM
@FleischerSupes - I'm totally on the same page with you. If you're gonna do an else worlds deal, go all the way and keep Batman totally out of it.
TheGrayGhost
TheGrayGhost - 9/17/2018, 12:24 PM
@MiVigilante - I agree. However the story could end up being told in a way where characters appear as from Fleck's point of view as he starts to spiral, where everyone is a twisted version of themselves.

@TheGrayGhost - you know what, I could even get down with that

@FleischerSupes - or maybe they could go the Batman '89 route and have Joaquin/Arthur Fleck be the one who guns down The Waynes in Crime Alley. I could see it happening to be honest

Solid character actor. Been in everything. Overshadows no one. Gets in no one's way. He'll be fine.

TheGrayGhost
TheGrayGhost - 9/18/2018, 6:12 AM
@Skateanddestroy88 - Obviously I would hope not but would anyone seriously be surprised?

Have him fall at Ace or have whatever happens to him in this story during the climax then they'll show scenes of him escaping and seeing himself the first time but it'll be dark or shot somehow to where we can't see him fully. Then as the movie ends or close to it he'll show himself (whether to whomever tried to have him offed like Batman 89, or first heist/crime), cackle, credits.

Don't get me wrong this guy is a solid character actor but seems like a weird choice when they were looking for names like Baldwin and Mortenson.

Gonna look super weird considering he played in another Batman-related film just 6 years ago.
