Josh Brolin Confirms BATMAN Talks; Also Comments On The Ben Affleck Backlash

It's moot now since we know the character will be played by Ben Affleck, but in an interview with The Huffington Post the Men In Black 3 actor confirms that he was indeed in the running to play Batman in Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel sequel.

Well well, it seems the rumors were true: Josh Brolin -- an actor I think many more fans would have rallied behind if he'd got the role -- was indeed in the running to play Bruce Wayne/Batman in the Man Of Steel sequel. In an interview with The Huffington Post, the No Country For Old Men star says that he didn't actually have any conversations about it, but suggests that director Zack Snyder wanted him for the part. When asked if he'd had any discussions with Snyder about it, Brolin responds, "We did. I didn't have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn't turn out. It's OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I'm happy for Ben." Brolin was definitely a very popular choice when his name was rumored along with several others to be in contention for the role, but "Batfleck" has obviously received a much more mixed reaction. What are Brolin's thoughts on that? "I've never seen such a global reaction in my life," he says. "I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal. It's like, '[frick] this guy, I wish he was dead.' And you're like, 'What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He's doing the same thing you are. He's trying to make the best choices he can.'" Brolin then echoes what quite a few of us have been thinking/hoping..that Affleck goes on to knock it out of the park and deliver the goods as Batman; "I want him to kick ass and I want everyone to love it and kind of eat their words."

Before people complain WHY NOT BROLIN!!!

Brolin recently divorced Diana Lane, Ma Kent, and it ended badly.

I'm glad we got Affleck instead of Brolin. He's a similar age to Affleck but he just looks so much older. Maybe for an adaption to The Dark Knight Returns, but not for Batman and Superman's first time on-screen together.

like I said before :

just imagine Brolin delivering that line. His voice would be PERFECT.

"I want you to remember, Clark … in all the years to come … in your most private moments … I want you to remember … my hand … at your throat … I want … you to remember … the one man who beat you."

It should have been him, he would be a perfect older, gritty, dirty batman. but well, let's see how ben does.

He would have made a DOPE Bruce Wayne. I've always liked him, but his work in 'No Country For Old Men' cinched it for me.

The Josh Brolin report came from The Hollywood Reporter. If there i one Hollywood website that truly delivers news with there sources is them (also variety and deadline). those three are the only credible website that there word can be trusted. I also believe Hollywood reporter when they said that Ryan gosling was also in the run for the part which im glad he did not get.

Brolin was way to old. Plus i can't think of a film where he hasn't sounded like a cowboy.

9 times out of time I'd agree..the trades rarely deal in rumors..BUT on a rare occasion they do run with something they've heard whispers of rather than had officially confirmed, so they've been caught out a few times.

@Nomis People would have bitched, but those are actually good reasons. Brolin is indeed old and nowhere near embodying the persona of Bruce Wayne.

Judging by the actors people wanted it to be, Ben Affleck should be perfect in their eyes. Dudes from CW shows who can't act and old ass actors that would need stuntmen edits for every action scene.

id like brolin over cavill based on what they wanted which was an older batman. but i am not one bit dissapointed in their choosing of affleck. i think he'll be really good and definitely has the potential to do something great things as batman. he's gonna have trouble shedding his 'affleck' label we know him as but its possible. i never liked anne hathaway in anything before TDKR. she reminded me of princess diaries and the casting i thought was weird. buut as long as the acting chops are there there's always a chance to shed whatever people peg you as. ben affleck has great opportunity make a new name for himself here and to prove the world wrong

I would've liked a rather unknown actor who's closer to Cavill in terms of age. So yeah, Brolin wouldn't have been my favourite choice either. ^^

As for the enormous Affleck/Batman backlash - sorry, that was kinda predictable. Yes, there are those who take their... criticism way too far (ridiculous petition/stating they wished he'd get injured/would die), but overall I'm not at all surprised by the negative reactions of both fans and GA. I'm not happy about it, as I do like Affleck, but unexpected it shouldn't have been. :/

Cranston will be Lex. Cranston was in Argo. Affleck will
vouch for him. And that will be that.
