Matt Damon Backs His Friend Ben Affleck's Batman Decision

On a philanthropic visit to India, actor Matt Damon can't escape the Batfleck frenzy when interviewed by international media. "If anybody saw Argo or The Town, and all the work he's been doing lately, it's way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman!"

Matt Damon Ben Affleck Batfleck Robin
Actor Matt Damon chimes in on his good friend Ben Affleck's decision to play Batman in the Man of Steel sequel, stating, "I think it will be great. It will be terrific. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the internet. I just think it's kind of funny." He continued, "You know, he's not playing King Lear. It's Batman! Certainly within his skill set. If anybody saw Argo or The Town, and all the work he's been doing lately, it's way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that."

When jokingly asked if Damon would play Robin in Batman vs Superman, Damon replied in good humor, "I am a little older than Ben. I never saw Robin as older than Batman. Somebody sent me a picture actually (of Matt's face photoshopped on Robin's body and Ben's on Batman's). It was really funny. But it's safe to say I won't be Robin."

Damon also touched on the recent Bourne rumors. While not confirming a return to the franchise, Matt did voice support for Jeremy Renner's take. "They were just trying to revitalise that franchise and I didn't mind at all. It didn't have anything to do with the movie that I made. It makes sense for a studio to keep those franchises as alive as they can, it makes business sense for them. I don't begrudge anybody that. I am a huge fan of Jeremy. I don't equate my Bourne movie with his. He didn't play the part of Jason Bourne. It's a totally different thing."

I want Damon in the DCCU. Give him Harvey Dent/Two-Face and make a 2 part Two-Face film and film it back to back.

Surprised Damon didn't say, "No, I won't be Robin, but I have entered talks about Aquaman." ;)

Please comeback to the Bourne franchise.

I really did not like the most recent one...I just found it dull, and the final action sequence just felt added as they hadn't done anything for 2 hours. That said I think Renner was a good choice.

In a way I'm surprised they don't go Bond with it and just have different actors play Bourne.

Some people might say: Matt Damon nailed Bourne, but so did Sean Connery and it's turned out alright for Bond.

@Lev Well seeing as they aren't Batman, I'd say give two face to Brolin

In all honestly though, I prefer Damon as Batman/Bruce Wayne. But I still can't wait for affleks performance. He'll own it.

In a very subtle way, Matt Damon just bitched about Ben Affleck's limited acting abilities. If you read between the lines you will see it.

GTFO

I sure as hell hope that's not how Ben looks at it.

I still want Damon as Aquaman. I'm dead serious. Just give him the beard of manliness, and he's set. That, and orange spandex.

Everyone wants Bryan Cranston for Lex. He's almost in his sixties, but think about this. Have you forgotten about Lionel Luthor?

Wouldn't Cranston be much better as Lionel? Think of the character on Smallville especially. Say what you will about the show, but he was great.

It could work as a way to introduce some backstory on Lex. But id rather have Lex as the head of Lexcorp established and around the same age as Henry Cavill.

So its all [frick] Oscar winning Matt Damon for defending his best friend for being Batman.

It's all [frick] Mark Waid for not liking Man of Steel.

It's all [frick] Shane Black for doing a different take on the Mandarin.

The intelligence on this site is just so [frick]ing low.

That's the whole problem isn't it. Depending on the suit and his physical presence Affleck may pull off the batman look the same way val kilmer and keaton did but ill never see him as a Bruce Wayne. He just dosent look like he can pull it off. Plus, that big [frick]in head of his and that silly sideways smirk are too much a part of Affleck. Also his whiny bitch voice. I don't see affleck pulling it off as Wayne. As a matter of fact I take it back hell suck as batman as well.

"lol, it's just Batman..."

Kevin Conroy always compared Batman/Bruce Wayne to Hamlet -- in fact, it's what drew him to the character.

@LEVITIKUZ No, I do respect your opinion, it's just that people aren't happy with how he thinks Batman is just some guy in a halloween costume whispering in a gruff voice with no nuance.

@Mike89

I'd take both. I'd like to see the father son relationship between them more explored on the big screen. Lionel's nature vs. Lex's nature. See how they contrast and differ. Maybe even have Lionel like Superman, and Lex being against him.
