The other day, we received word that Matthew Modine, Joey King, and Tom Conti all joined the cast of Nolan's final Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises. While nothing is known about Conti and King's roles in the movie, it's been announced that Modine (Full Metal Jacket, Married To The Mob) will be playing a character known as 'Nixon'. EW has the following to say:

EW has confirmed that Matthew Modine, star of Full Metal Jacket and Married to the Mob, has been cast in the upcoming Bat-threequel. A report in Variety said that Modine was playing a character named “Nixon,” but Modine’s reps couldn’t confirm that piece of information.

Sounds like this is another Nolan-invented character, since (to my knowledge at least) there isn't a character known as 'Nixon' in the Batman comics. Anyways, The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and many more, and will be released July 20th, 2012!

@DCMovieFanatic I hope you're joking about President Nixon. :P
And Joey King seems like she'd be a good Barbara Gordon, IMO.

Who's Tom Conti playing?? Possibly Rupert Thorne or maybe even Cobblepot? Good Scottish character actor! Also with Modine the film has it's very own (Private) Joker!!

The twist is that Richard Nixon, secretly kept alive by Lazarus Pits, is the true mastermind behind the attacks on Gotham, and it's up to a newly resurrected Hunter S. Thompson to bring him down.
