MTV Names THE DARK KNIGHT RISES As Their Top Movie Of 2012; THE AVENGERS Ranked At #5

Another prominent film website has released their "Top 10" list of movies to be released this year, and this time it's from our friends over at MTV News. The Dark Knight Rises is their #1 pick, but the placement of The Avengers may upset warring Marvel fans. Check it out!

The guys over at MTV News have published their "Top 10" movies of 2012, and as you can see from the headline above and list below, it was Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie which really impressed them this year. Why? Well, here's their explanation. "How do you follow up one of the best comic book-inspired films of all time anchored by an immediately iconic performance? You go bigger. You raise the stakes. And you put an exclamation point on the end of it. That's what Christopher Nolan did to close out his awe-inspiring take on the legend of Batman in "The Dark Knight Rises," and it's why it's our favorite film of 2012." Fair enough. As a mainstream website, they certainly have a good grasp on what the regular moviegoer enjoys (unlike a lot of other similar lists we've seen recently), but their decision to put The Avengers four places beneath The Dark Knight Rises may not sit well with some! Django Unchained seems like the only real glaring omission from this list, although that could be because it's not out until December 25th. Check out their selections below and be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower
3. Looper
4. Zero Dark Thirty
5. The Avengers
6. Skyfall
7. The Cabin In The Woods
8. Silver Linings Playbook
9. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
10. The Hunger Games
