Standalone JOKER Movie WILL Be Separate From The DC Films Universe; New Banner Will Be Named Soon

A new report sheds further light on where The Joker will fit into the DC Films Universe while Geoff Johns promises that we'll learn more about both its name and what it will entail in the near future.

The DC Extended Universe DC Films Universe is in a very confusing place right now; Warner Bros. is moving away from movies which all tie into each other and are launching a separate banner for releases that are totally standalone. The first of those is expected to be an origin story for The Joker and while that's only been rumoured up until now, both that new banner and the film are now official.

That's despite the lack of any sort of press release announcing the launch of this new DC Films banner but Geoff Johns promises that the title of the label will be revealed "soon-ish" so something is clearly in the works. Why it's taking so long is hard to say but the studio is a tad disorganised with all things DC!

Perhaps Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment
is trying to figure out which films will join The Joker as a standalone tale. Could Nightwing and Shazam take place in a world separate to Justice League?

And if so, won't that be incredibly confusing for regular moviegoers? We'll just have to wait and see but with Comic-Con a long way off, we simply don't know when and where Warner Bros. will start revealing what's in store for us. What do you guys think? Feel free to weigh in with your thoughts down below.

I don't mind the idea of separate films, but all of this DC(EU) news is getting more and more contradictory than Donald Trump.

If this move means we get a good Superman origin movie, then I'm all for it.

Shouldn't they actually name the universe one first?

Will movies that tie in and share a universe be called Earth One and when they do stand alone call them Earth then a number to show that are on a separate world.

Opens up the door to a crisis story if they ever wanted too.

manofillintent1
manofillintent1 - 10/1/2017, 1:35 AM
@Datahloks - No, at least 5 of them are great, 6 are good, 5 of them are meh, for ten years marvel has yet to make a movie that's just plain BAD.

Okay then, you do what you must, WB/DC. If that means making a movie that might well beat the young Han Solo movie in the category of 'I really like the character, but wtf is this movie and why would I want to watch it?' then so be it.

Just make sure to tell anybody the actual name of your new brand of movies this time...

4 films in, scrapped the continuity, except for JL. And Wonder Woman 2. and Aquaman. And Shazam. And Nightwing. What about the Batman film with Matt Reeves ?

They should stop with these announcements until they know full well what they are doing. This will most definitely confuse the average movie going audience.

I remember when DC fanatics were yelling "OMG CONNECTIVITY!! We'll show you guys how it's done" when the BvS trailers were put out.

Now it's "Who cares about connectivity? JUST MAKE GOOD MOVIES!!"?

I'm not surprised really. The narrative of the DC Films branch of WB keeps changing, and their diehard fans will keep changing their narrative too.

@BlindWedjat - well to be honest who cares if they aren't connected, I think building a universe locks you into going in one direction but having movies telling you different stories you will have different possibilities.

Yes, it will be very confusing. Especially with regards to the General Audience.

Obviously this is Geoff Johns thinking that a cinematic multiverse would be a good idea, as it works in the comics so why not cinema.

Because cinema is a very different thing. Something Johns may not fully understand.

Let me put this in geek speak: It is a hyper-continuum. An ancient rite. This is unconsciously understood by all, from the smartest to the most idiotic, because it doesn't usually require any understanding whatsoever. The collective GA does not want to have to think about multiverses with regards to their shared cinematic visitations. They assume it's all the same realm regardless of studio or franchise or logic or sense. This is why the MCU works so well, because it resonates with this archaic idea.

This amount of confusion from these stand-alone projects surrounded by a contradictive shared universe will alienate audiences everywhere (fans and GA) alike and will be the death-knell for cbms in general, not just DC Films.

You have an audience of 7 billion people. Keep it simple.

If anyone wants to here how I would write a standalone Joker "origin" movie, I wrote an pitch idea/synopsis. Just reply for the link.

It's basically an original character veteran tabloid reporter and the new reporter Vicki Vale both trying to find out the Joker's origin, crossing paths with Batman characters like Harvey Bullock, Harley Quinn, and The Eraser as we get an anthology of Joker Origins. The older reporter will slowly go insane in his search for the truth and go to the Joker himself for answers.

I combined film noir with hints of Lovecraftian horror and think it works really well with not revealing anything about who Joker is, while showing you exactly what he is. I hope they go that route with this movie. Anyway, I actually just realized people can no longer reply to each other here for some wierd glitch based reason so I'll just put up a link for the convenience of anyone intrigued by this.
