According to the Hypable website, there's a chance that The Riddler will be among the ever-growing roster of characters to be featured in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises.

While noting that this should be taken with a grain of salt, the report does go on to state, "According to a legitimate source who has seen an official casting document stamped April 2011, Edward Nygma (The Riddler) is being cast in The Dark Knight Rises. As of April, it doesn’t look like the character had been cast, but that most likely has changed now, nearly 4 months later. Below is how our source described the document to look:

EDWARD NYGMA (LEAD) -

BRUCE WAYNE/BATMAN (LEAD) – Christian Bale

ALFRED PENNYWORTH (LEAD) – Michael Caine

BANE (LEAD) – Tom Hardy

SELINA KYLE (LEAD) – Anne Hathaway

FEMALE LEAD (LEAD) – Marion Cotillard"

IF there's a shot of this rumor being true, what's the general feeling out there about yet another character being added? Does it bring with it excitement or some concern that things could veer into Joel Schumacher territory in terms of too many characters needing to be serviced?

he might be in it,knowing nolan he'll probably be blue & covered in !!!!!!!!!!!!.we know how he likes to change things so they look nothing like the character.

I'm sure The Riddler won't be in the movie, but Edward Nygma could always make a brief cameo as, for example, the new Akham Asylum boss after Jonathan Crane went mad.

Just seeing the word 'April' on CBM sparks up the whole April fool routine that we all sit through every year :P So my subconscious says fake... However, part of me would LOVE for Joseph Gordon Levitt to turn out to be the riddler, and the whole film he was duping the audience (and the characters) into believing that he was that (minor) police dude (whatever he's called I can't remember...). I mean, why would they have got this up and coming actor in such a small-time role? It didn't add up when I heard the casting before, and still doesn't now. This could be legit...

It might of been an early Villain choice, there was rumors early on that Riddler would be the villain but it was changed along the way. The source probably seen an old document.

Maybe his role will be not so much on the villain side but more of a neutral character. Maybe he'll be more of an informant of sorts that people go to for information in exchange for solving one of his riddles first.
