In 2013, Zack Snyder revealed to the world that a BATMAN/SUPERMAN film was in the works. Like most of us, I was completely in pure shock and excitement. A Superman movie with Batman in it... It was a literal dream come true. I am a fan of the critically-divisive Man of Steel, so I was already hyped for a Man of Steel sequel. Learning that Batman would be in it just made the situation even better!

Through the rest of 2013 all the way through early 2016, it's been a rocky road. There's been people jumping all over the movie because of casting choices, certain story choices, and the overall direction it was headed. Of course, there were also a fair amount of people supporting it as well, like myself. But I'll admit that I was concerned about some stuff... Who wasn't? But now, I sincerely believe that this movie can be the best comic book film of 2016. Just remember that some of this is pure speculation and could contain potential SPOILERS.

1. The Story; "Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely..."

As we've seen from the trailers, tv spots and all that other good stuff, this movie seems to shape up to have a well-rounded story. It shows Superman as a divisive figure in the public's eyes and what his consequences are across the globe. Batman just so happens to be on the side that is skeptical and wants Superman to be put down.

"He has the power to wipe out the entire human race and if we believe there's even a ONE-PERCENT chance that he is our enemy, we have to take it as an ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY."

This is not your typical-Reeve Superman. This is more of a realistic and grounded take on the Superman mythos, and I think it's brilliant. And what I love even more about this element to the story is that it's taking flaws from MoS and using those flaws to help make BvS a better film.

Essentially, Batman's believes Superman is a threat. As we also see that Clark Kent isn't too much a fan of the "Bat Vigilante" himself.

"Next time they shine your light in the sky, don't go to it. The bat is dead. Bury it."

This is which, I assume, causes them to clash. Now, apparently, we've only seen 3% of the film, so there's probably a lot more to eveything, so we'll just have to wait until later this March to see exactly what the story is and how everything fits. But as of now, it seems like it's gonna have a superb story. Also, did I mention it's written by Chris Terrio? That alone gives me no worries about the film's story.

2. The Dialogue; "It's Time You Learned What It Means To Be a Man!"

I'm just gonna leave this here...

Clark Kent: Civil liberties are being trampled on in your city; people living in fear. He thinks he's above the law.

Bruce Wayne: The Daily Planet criticizing those who think they're above the law is a little hypocritical, wouldn't you say? Considering every time your hero saves a cat out of a tree, you write a puff piece editorial about an alien that could burn the whole place down.

Clark Kent: Most of the world doesn't share your opinion, Mr. Wayne.

Bruce Wayne: Maybe it's the Gotham City in me, we just have a bad history with freaks dressed like clowns.

3. The Character of Lex Luthor (& His Progression In The DCEU); "If Man Won't Kill God..."

It seems like the most divisive thing about this whole movie is Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Yes, he may seem flamboyant and a bit annoying on the outside, but that's because he has a darker side that he never shows. In his prequel comic, there's a panel that shows him as a hateful and cruel soul for one portion, and then normal Lex the  rest of the comic.

Trust me when I say that the goofy moron we've been seeing in the trailers will eventually become an arsehole by the end of the film. The shaggy-haired goofball is truly the bald, complex character on the inside... He just never shows it. I think this could be the most complex (and possibly best?) incarnation of Lex Luthor. I'm calling it right now. Also, multiple people have said that a certain scene involving Lex is some of the best acting Eisenberg has ever done. Even if you listen to his theme, it's a more broken and disorted version of Superman's theme in MoS, which shows that he is a broken and complex person. Like I said in number one, we'll just have to play the waiting game and see what happens.

4. Ben Affleck as Batman; "Tell Me... Do You Bleed?"

I don't know what happened. It's like Ben Affleck died, and was reincarnated as Bruce Wayne. I think he could be the perfect cinematic Batman. He's the most agile of any live-action Batman, his suit is borderline perfect, and he has literally become the Batman. I don't really feel like I need to explain it, because if you've seen him in any of the trailers or tv spots, you can probably see why you're never gonna see anybody complain about his Batman ever again... and the only people that will complain are either trolls or irradical anti-feminists. If Ryan Reynolds can redeem himself as Deadpool, then I think it's safe to say that Ben Affleck sure as heck can as Batman.

5. Wonder Woman; "I Don't Think You've Ever Known a Woman Like Me..."

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman is finally going to give females someone to look up to. Black Widow and Scarlet Witch are different for obvious reasons because Wonder Woman is a more iconic character and is arguably more beloved, so now the female audience can have a kick-butt Amazonian warrior to look at. Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman was also needed for this film if they want to set up the Justice League. How she will be used is yet to be determined, but it has been said that she reportedly "steals the show." I can't wait for her.

6. The Dawn of The Justice League; "And In Time, You Will Accomplish Wonders..."

The Marvel Cinematic Universe opened up a door to a new world of comic book films. A lot of people (cough cough haters cough) think the DCEU is trying to play catch-up and ride off the success of Marvel Studios. They're most likely wrong. DC does not need to be the same as Marvel. If you want a more detailed discussion about it, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfulll2ns44.

But anyways, the DCEU is jumping in already because their plans are not the same as Marvel's. They have some neat stuff in store for us... like the Justice League. This movie is setting the blueprints for the Justice League films and all the other DC films to come. It may seem a little bloated, but that's only because this movie is a key element in developing a JL Cinematic Universe. Ezra Miller's Flash, Ray Fisher's Cyborg, and Jason Mamoa's Aquaman are all confirmed to take part in the film. Mostly just cameos, but still.

Doomsday is going to show the Trinity (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman) how to work as a team, and there's a rumor that in a closing credits montage, it's gonna show the Justice League saving people and doing their thing, kinda like the opening credits of Watchmen. Until then, we must wait.

The Conclusion

In short, I think Batman v Superman will be awesome. I've been waiting for this movie for years, and less than a month from now, I'm going to be sitting in a theater and witnessing this film. This is my first article, so if anybody has any thoughts on the matter just go ahead and comment! I can't wait to see your thoughts! So what do you think about it? Are you excited for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

Nice article!

I took the wait and see approach with Ben Affleck when I heard about the casting. I'm glad I didn't jump on the hate train like most people did. He really does look like he's done an excellent job.

Im going to take this same stance with Jesse Eisenberg... Especially compared to the last two 1 dimensional Lex Luthor's we've had on film, his take seems like it will be very interesting, if not the best take yet. But once again, I will wait and see.

Batman V.Superman:Dawn Of Justice looks great visually and it will be better than Man Of Steel but I think Captain America:Civil War will be the better all round movie of 2016.
