Zack Snyder spoke to French outlet, Popcorn Magazine [translated via Comic Book Therapy] to promote 300: Rise of an Empire but the conversation inevitably turned to Batman vs Superman. On Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader, Snyder reiterated that the decision to hire Affleck was based on the actor's ability to accurately portray the dual role of a scarred and weary Batman once night falls and an upbeat, friendly Bruce Wayne while in the public eye. "Ben brings an interesting counterweight to the performance of Henry [Cavill's] Superman. [Affleck] has the experience necessary to paint the picture of an older and more [advanced] man than Clark Kent, [one] who bears the scars of a seasoned vigilante while [simultaneously] retaining the charm that Bruce Wayne deploys when present in the world." Snyder also reiterated to the French magazine that the film will be influenced by Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns but won't be a direct adaptation.
