Another Possible BLACK PANTHER Director Contender Emerges

We heard last night that Selma director Ava DuVernay is being eyed to helm Black Panther (or possibly Captain Marvel) for Marvel, but now another possible candidate has emerged, and it probably isn't someone you would have ever expected. Hit the jump for details...

We'll meet Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther for the first time in Captain America: Civil War next year, but Marvel are already looking for a director to helm T'Challa's 2018 solo movie. It sounds like Ava DuVernay is a strong contender, but now another name may have entered the mix, and once again, it appears as if Kevin Feige is going to make an unexpected and interesting choice.

According to El Mayimbe (via Twitter), it sounds like Marvel have met with Dope director Rick Famuyiwa. It's strictly a rumour for now of course, but the studio is known for hiring lesser known (i.e. cheap) filmmakers who have impressed critics and moviegoers with TV shows or smaller films. Famuyiwa is a native of Nigeria, and the buzz around Dope has been good, so it's well worth keeping an eye on this. How would you guys feel about Famuyiwa helming Black Panther?

I saw the trailer for Dope the other day and it looked surprisingly good. I'll have to see if I can catch it in cinemas when it's released. Would still prefer DuVernay right now, but that could change after I see his movie.

Doopie just took the best and most obvious joke, and now every single comment that follows, including mine, will be completely and utterly meaningless.

It's all mostly about publicity, and then about getting someone who won't inadvertently stereotype Africans.

By publicity I mean avoiding negative press about NOT getting a black or female director.

Whoever directs, I just hope he/she understands that this film is part of the MCU and not an Indy.

Seriously though, if that's what they're going for it should be Antoine Fuqua.

@XMenMarvelFan You'll have to excuse Jollem. He simply ADORED what Shane Black did with Iron Man 3 (not to mention the Oscar-worthy performance he wrung out of Robert Downey Jr), and so he's been fan-casting Black for every movie ever since.

=)

@LEVITIKUZ I know right, Marvel Studios always pisses me off with their casting. Do you remember how long it [frick]ing took them to cast Doctor Strange?

I understand wanting to cast the right person but come on, I wish more people would do what Bryan Singer does. He just goes on Twitter or Instagram and announces who was cast in X-Men no cat and mouse and no rumors.

I know he'll try to push out Chadwick Boseman and cast himself in the lead role and have a sex scene with Rosie Perez, but let's not rule out Spike Lee.

Whoever they cast, that director better bring in a good choreographer and cinematographer! I want to see Black Panther kick ass and Wakanda in all of it's technological glory!

@SauronsBANE LMFAO!! Yes I'm sure @Jollem just loves the modern masterpiece that is Iron Man 3.

Besides Shane Black is a busy guy, he has a movie coming out in 2016 called 'The Nice Guys' and then after that FOX hired him to work on the new Predator movie :)

I agree with you @LEVITIKUZ...it's taking wayyyy too damn long to cast spidey...Feel like its gonna be butter nuts..err I mean butterfield.

Also, I have been waiting on any news about a NEMESIS flick that Mark Millar has been teasing about. A while back he said a big announcement was coming and I haven't heard shit.
