The mysterious project from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler and frequent collaborator Michael B. Jordan we first heard about last month has found a home at Warner Bros.

THR reports that the movie has landed at the studio after a period of "intense interest" from several other parties, including Universal.

The untitled film was previously described as a "genre feature," with a "period element to the story," with Jeff Sneider adding that vampires would likely be involved in his newsletter. Though blood-suckers aren't specifically mentioned in this new report, the project is said to be "a period thriller (some have said it takes place in the Jim Crow-era South) involving "the undead."

Sources have also mentioned that the movie "contains anime influences," which would make sense considering what a huge fan Jordan is.

A period, anime-inspired vampire tale directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan is certainly an intriguing prospect. Let's hope some more details come to light soon.

Coogler will also write the script and is on board as lead producer along with Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian.

Coogler's last feature was Marvel Studios Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which saw Jordan reprise his role as Erik Killmonger for an afterlife cameo. Last we heard, the filmmaker was working on a third Black Panther instalment, but there's been no official word on his progress. Coogler is also said to be involved in at least one planned small-screen BP spin-off, and was recently rumored as a possible contender to helm Avengers: Secret Wars.

We wouldn't put too much stock in that one at the moment, especially since Coogler is also taking charge of an X-Files reboot for the Disney-owned 20th Century Studios.

What do you make of his news? Care to make any guesses about this mysterious vampire movie? Be sure to drop us a comment down below, and check out Jordan's return as Killmonger in Wakanda Forever.

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livanalli.

A period thriller with a vampire element & anime influences?.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it is set in Jim Crow-era South since Coogler likes to tackle the theme of race to some extent in all his films so that would be par for the course imo.

Looking forward to it!!.

He is involved in some interesting project choices. I hope it works out well. These kinds of films I previously would expect Jordan Peele to helm so it will be interesting to see what Coogler can add to these kinds of films.

I feel that this could be like what happened in castlevania rondo of blood anime. With Annette and her origins. Except bringing that to the Deep South during the 50’s and 60’s. I’d definitely watch it. Sounds good.

Wouldn't mind a Vampire in Brooklyn or Blackula remake. Hell a vampire movie set during wild/violent days of New York in the 70s wouldn't be a bad idea.

You always appear when you are needed. You are the 70/80s whisperer.

I imagine I will be just as drunk watching this as I was watching Blackula & laughing my a$$ off in the theater about a million years ago.

Anime influences, a period vampire thriller, and Ryan Coogler back at WB outside the marvel machine. Let him cook.

Coogler is so talented. I'm glad he is spreading his wings a bit. If we learned anything from Nolan is that being with one studio for so long sometimes gets stagnant. He went to universal from WB and Nolan about to get his first Oscar💪

Change is good sometimes.

I hope coogler doesn't do that wakanda show. Let him stick to black panther films but do smaller films with other studios🖖

How about instead of doing Blackula let’s get MBJ to sign on to play Al…

I know Jaime Foxx is signed on but it might be time to get someone a tad younger considering the movie is no where close to being made.

@BruceWayng - Finally someone with some sense. Good casting call. Jamie was supposed to be Tyson also and Spawn. I rather him move off both those projects. And McFarlane can’t even get investors after 20 years of a reboot

Per Hollywood, if it's not a sequel, reboot, requel, legacy sequel or whatever other names exist won't work in today's time and age.
Insta-flopping for sure
