BLACK PANTHER Loses Out On Best Picture Oscar To GREEN BOOK - Check Out The Full List Of Winners

Early wins for Marvel and director Ryan Coogler's Black Panther gave us hope that it could possibly walk away with Best Picture, but it wasn't to be, with Green Book taking home the award in the end.

T'Challa's first solo adventure still did very well, however, winning Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Best Original Score - making it the first movie in the MCU to win an Academy Award.

In addition, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse claimed the statue for Best Animated Feature.

You'll find a list of the winners in all the major categories below, so be sure to have a read through and let us know what you thought about tonight's show in the comments.

Well as some have said, it was a Marvellous night tonight. Even though Infinity War was ROBBED big time for VFX, kudos to Black Panther for its 3 wins and to Spiderverse. MCU with 3 Oscars baby!! WAKANDA FOREVER!!

I'll be honest, kind of liked the new format to the Oscars this year. Felt streamlined and on point most of the time, cut out a lot of the fluff and got right to the point. Kind of surprised it worked so well considering all the drama behind this Oscars going into the night. Things turned out for the better, that's for sure.

Also, it was a blast reacting to the Oscars with you guys on here tonight.

I wouldn' say Infity War it was robbed. First Man got some realyl good effects too. Also there are not almost entirely created by computer. There seems to be (at least that is how I felted while watching movie) many practical effects also. How come Mission Impossible was not nominated for special effects is also beyond me (and editing).

Anyway, i'm glad that The Academy rewarded First Man.
Big (positve) surprise.

@jerryblake - "I wouldn't say Infinity War was robbed."

It was ROBBED.

With regards to Mission Impossible, I don't think VFX would have been a good category. Maybe cinematography or editing or something like that. And I've always said, there needs to be a "Best Stunt" category. Tom Cruise and the other stuntmen and women never get recognized for what they do. They deserve to be rewarded just as much as those that memorize lines.

@HeavyMetal4Life - IT WASN'T ROBBED. First Man have equally good effects. Maybe the reason this movie won is that most of the effects seems like they were done in practical way. Maybe Academy voters felt they award more "practical" movie.

Also MI was ROBBED from nomination imo. Helicopter scene alone was worth the nomination.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I did not see that coming I thought Roma was going to win easily

@jerryblake - it WAS robbed. Not sure why that's difficult to get across.

Mission Impossible Fallout is a perfect, 10/10 film. But it didn't belong in the VFX category.

@blitzburgh - I haven't seen it yet either (only so many movies I go see in the theater, lol) but from all that I saw and read about it, thought it would win.

@jerryblake - I highly disagree. First Man's effects were impressive no doubt but I would argue that creating something that doesn't exist in reality from scratch is way harder than recreating something you have tons of reference material for.

@HeavyMetal4Life - "We were just gonna thank Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for really inspiring the whole thing and for being a force of believing that all of us human beings have the potential capacity to be heroes," co-director Bob Persichetti said in the interview room regarding their speech being cut short.

This sours it a bit.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Have to agree with the others. Infinity War was not robbed at all. The Oscars are about art, rather than entertainment. I don't know if you've seen First Man, but some of the effects of that film are simply breathtaking and really take you on a journey; one representative of a real event. This takes away nothing from Infinity War which is visually incredible but built around colourful sci fi elements and worlds - which doesn't necessarily catch the imagination in the same way. You know it's a creation. You know for a fact you could never walk past a man who looks like Thanos on the street. First Man shows you something that - in the right circumstances - you could see for real.

@Nebula - God, I hate that got cut off by the orchestra. At the start of Spike Lee's speech, you can hear silence twice; that's the delay silencing Lee saying "Don't you start that mother[frick]ing clock" twice directly to the orchestra.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Infinity War was wickid, but the consistency of its CGI wasn't half as solid as First Man. The CGI/Effects in First Man were virtually flawless whereas there are several instances of slightly less perfect CGI in Infinity War.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Did not watch. Cannot tell you how long it has been since I watched an Oscars show. I just don't find them relevant. Simply a circle jerk for the Hollyweird industry incestuous self-worshipers.

But, Infinity WAS the biggest event in film last year, and, as so bleedingly obvious, not a single win.

@bropous - it was actually a pretty good oscars for the most part

@jerryblake - I haven't seen First Man but the effects in the original 1969 version were awful. took me right out of the whole story. ;-)
NicholiB
NicholiB - 2/26/2019, 1:29 AM
@DannyN176 - Infinity War shouldn't have won but First Man should because it was "real"? You know the original 1969 version was just a propaganda film shot in Arizona, right? Hey maybe if it had the special effects of the 2018 version it might have been a little more credible?
dracula

Knew it wouldn't happen, its a great movie but come on, some people act like its the Citizen Kane or Godfather of comic book movies. Dark Knight was better and it wasn't even nominated
