Without getting into spoilers, Black Widow kicks off with a powerful prologue before James Bond-style opening credits that fit this movie perfectly. Set to Malia J's cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," the song has now been officially released and can be heard in the player below.
In an interview with Consequence, the singer talked about getting the request from Marvel Studios to use the song. "We honestly thought it was a joke and didn't immediately respond. A different version of this cover has been circulating in the TV/film industry since 2015, and I can only speculate that someone from their camp was a fan and wanted to put it in the movie!"
"I found out during the pandemic, and the news lifted my spirits up during such a dark time," Malia J continued. "I had no idea this song would end up being in a Marvel film, let alone the opening credits. I am such a fan of Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh — to be a part of something they are involved with is a dream come true."
We also have a new poster for Black Widow which you can check out below:
In our review, we concluded by saying, "Black Widow is Bourne meets Bond meets Terminator...with two outstanding, badass female leads. Action-packed, funny, and at times surprisingly gut-wrenching, Cate Shortland's vision for the MCU is bold, empowering, and utterly unmissable."
In the movie, Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melina. Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige; Black Widow - the first big screen story in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - arrives on July 9th both in theaters and on Disney+.
