BLACK WIDOW Movie Rumored To Be Marvel Studios' First R-Rated Release

BLACK WIDOW Movie Rumored To Be Marvel Studios' First R-Rated Release

This is definitely unexpected but a new rumour is doing the rounds which indicates that the upcoming Black Widow movie starring Scarlett Johansson could end up with...an R-Rating?! Read on for details.

Black Widow is set to be released next year and production is expected to begin soon. With that in mind, we should start getting some casting news before long but one very interesting rumour has now started doing the rounds courtesy of That Hashtag Show's Charles Murphy (who also got people talking this week when he shed some light on plans for Loki on Disney+).

"When I first heard they were developing the Black Widow film, I also heard they were discussing whether or not to make it Marvel Studios first R-rated film," he reveals.

Unfortunately, as intriguing as this would be, I can't imagine it ever happening. While Black Widow could benefit from an R-Rating, Disney would be closing the door on young girls being able to watch the female-led superhero movie, while it's no secret that the character - played by Scarlett Johansson - shifts merchandise.

An R-Rating would greatly impact both of those things and that's why Black Widow will more than likely end up being PG-13, just like every other Marvel Studios release.

Would you guys like to see this standalone adventure for the hero receive an R-Rating next year?

raises my interest in the film a little bit,, could be a cool experiment for Marvel. How "R" is Marvel rated R, ya know? How deep they pushing that rating? Or is it just the bare minimum needed to be labeled as such? Either way, I'm interested to see this unfold

@Vocloz - immediately git me iinterested. I am personally of the opinion that a disney black widow movie is just nothing that appeals to me. Make it an r rated movie in the style of Salt, i am on board 100%.

@Vocloz - It will be just blood showing so if it can't get into China they can edit it out without messing up the story.

"BLACK WIDOW Movie Rumored To Be Marvel Studios' First R-Rated Release"

But that's not what that rumor actually says. It indicates that in the planning stages, the idea of an R-rating was being discussed. Who knows if that idea went anywhere past talks.

Definitely not happening. Marvel is already fighting an uphill battle giving this character a solo film, yes she is establised but we don't know yet if she will put butts in seats. Making it R rated will cripple their demographic that theyve established, there are many kids and girls that would want to see this film. I just dont see it happening.

@Toonstrack - A low budget Scarjo starring spy thriller akin to Red Sparrow with the Marvel logo? It would definitely make crazy $$$, especially if we were to see some Black Widow booty.

Will it happen, [frick] no, but would it work? [frick] Yes!!!

@LongMayHeReign - Scarlet Jo isnt the big draw she used to be years ago

@Toonstrack - yeah. And thats not even taking into account how she's a major character in the avengers franchise, meaning this movie will want to market itself to people who watched those movies, a lot of those being kids. Maybe if this was an entirely separate character that was simply set in the mcu i might see that, but not a founding mcu avenger.

@Toonstrack - I doubt it will happen, but this is funny considering DC's Birds of Prey is also flirting with an R rating.

I'm telling y'all, DC does something, Feige be like:

@Battabing - You're right, any smart businessman would take notes from the competition. Which is why the fact that DC didn't follow Marvel's lead with solo films leading to a team-up is even more astoundingly idiotic.

@Battabing - lol you really think Feige looks at past failures...DC is nowhere near Marvel
Battabing

@theprophet - Yes, he does. Even the Russos have said there wouldn't be a Civil War had it not been for DC/WB announcing BvS.

@LongMayHeReign - But Feige was looking over at DC's SECOND film.

@Battabing - and yet you no longer have a Superman or Batman cast because they got tired of being on a sinking crap ship, take a hike fanatic

Also, this is the least interesting movie Marvel has announced for the near future. Especially with the rumors about the film itself. Black Widow is the kind of character that would make for a great Disney+ show.

Assuming that Black Widow doesn't die at the end of Endgame (because if she does, this film is even more unnecessary), have most of it to all of it occur post Endgame. And feature this guy below. You do those two things, the movie will be a lot more interesting.

@HeavyMetal4Life - He should be the antagonist of the Buciy and Falcon series.

@MNLawyer - I'd take that too

@HeavyMetal4Life - I think Widow will die in Endgame and be revealed to be a Skrull. Widows movie will explore her past but I think will also wind up with her being skrulled.

I can see the endgame post credits scene with several characters standing around a deceased Skrull Widow and someone asking "what could this mean?" And Carol responding "a war is coming" leading to the next avengers being Secret Invasion.

My two cents anyhow.

@LiteraryJoe - that would certainly change the game

@LiteraryJoe - Additional Skrull thoughts on who they could be based on the characters they would effect.

Iron Man - Pepper or Rhodes
Cap - Could be a Skrull himself
Thor - Selvig or Jane
Hulk - Thunderbolt Ross
Hawkeye - Black Widow
Black Panther - Everett Ross
Doctor Strange - Wong
Avengers/Fury - Hill or Coulson

@LiteraryJoe - @heavymetal4life -

I also think it could be dope if the Coulson that died in Avengers was a skrull and fury covered it up with all the Tahiti bull so no one would know.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 1/13/2019, 8:25 AM
@LiteraryJoe -

Its highly unlikely Coulson is a Skrull, considering we already know what happens to him, i.e. Project Tahiti, etc. And i seriously doubt they would make Cap a Skrull in the MCU.

I think the most likely on here would be Thunderbolt Ross. It would help explain his disdain for powered individuals.
