While a possible synopsis for Black Widow started doing the rounds earlier today, we now have a very interesting story which sheds some light on what direction this solo adventure for the character could be heading in. Apparently, we're going to be returning to the 1990s (a decade both Black Panther and next year's Captain Marvel have visited) as the plot will include the Y2K virus which everyone was fretting about back in 1999 before it quickly became apparent that hitting 2000 was no big deal.

It's previously been reported that Black Widow will take place both during Natasha's younger days and when she was recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. a few years before the events of Iron Man 2 and given what we know about her, that would make the villain turned hero roughly 16 when the Millennium arrived (Marvel Studios could hire a younger actress or use CGI to make Johansson look that much younger).

It's also mentioned that we should expect to see either The Winter Soldier or Hawkeye in the movie. That doesn't mean both won't have a role to play but it sounds like one of them is pretty much confirmed as of right now. The Y2K bug being a real thing that Natasha stops from happening to avoid another Cold War would be very interesting but it's pointed out that this is just one part of the plot, not what the entire movie revolves around. What do you guys think? As always, sound off below.

I highly doubt they will cgi her into a 16 old self. They might as well recast.

@ThePeterCipher - yeah agreed.

Also, having none of the movie take place after Infinity War and Avengers 4 is FREAKING stupid. Unless a movie's origin/story makes sense to be set prior to IW/A4 (i.e. Captain Marvel), the movie needs to be set in phase 4 time period...

@ThePeterCipher - Unless they keep to her comic-book origins, so she actually looks the same in 99 since she has the supersoldier serum (and was born in 1928). She could easily have a similar background to the Winter Soldier with the Red Room wherein she doesn't remember her past, and SHIELD could have realised she's older than she looks but given her an identity to match her age (where she's born in 1984). Nothing in the MCU movies we've seen so far would contradict this, it would actually make sense that she's superpowered given what she can do.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I think it'd be cool if they went "Mad Men" style and simultaneously told a post IW story as well as the Budapest bonding from the past. My two cents...

@tripttwe - oh I totally agree, that's what SHOULD happen. But I've seen nothing to indicate that yet.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Nah, i'm actually hype for the pre-ironman stuff as it's an unexplored time in her life especially if it means we get hawkeye. It immediately removes the "why don't she call the avengers" and for all we know she dies

@ThePeterCipher - I was thinking the same thing. After his appearance in the Spider-Man PS4 game, I def wanna see him in an MCU film.

@L0RDbuckethead - Loved how he literally followed spiderman through the whole city. QUite unique for a boss fight.

@ThePeterCipher - One of the most surprising appearances in that game, for sure.

Y'know, in AoU during the flashback scenes when they just gave her a fringe... she really did/could have passed as like 10 years younger IMO.
