BLACK WIDOW Promo Image Provides Our Best Look Yet At The Mysterious Taskmaster

A new promotional image for Marvel's Black Widow movie has found its way online, and it gives us a much more detailed look at the mysterious villain of the piece, Taskmaster. Check it out after the jump...

Thanks to a new Black Widow Topps trading card image that's been shared online, we have our best look yet at a character who's sparked a lot of discussion and speculation since he first popped up in the trailers, Taskmaster.

The pic features a full body shot of the mysterious villain, giving us a much more detailed look at his armor.

There are some similarities to Taskmaster's getup in the comics, but this take on the costume has come in for quite a bit of backlash. Still, these type of things usually come across better in live-action, and we've only seen very brief glimpses of him in the trailers and TV spots.

We still know very little about Taskmaster or how he'll factor into the plot. It's believed that O-T Fagbenle will play him, but that has yet to be confirmed and could simply be misdirection. One outlandish theory claims that it might be Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton under the mask, but that seems more like wishful thinking to us.

"In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melina. Directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, “Black Widow”—the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—hits U.S. theaters on May 1, 2020." --Marvel Studios."

Black Widow also stars William Hurt, Ray Winstone and Olivier Richters. The movie hits theaters on May 1st. Check out the recent extended teaser below, and let us know if you're looking forward to the movie in the comments.

Either Taskmaster is going to be like Boba Fett and never remove his helmet or there's going to be a big reveal of who's under the mask.

@GhostofCipher - Good lord that's funny.

I just heard the voice of Chandler Bing in my head saying "...….and anime"

I feel the same way as the Batsuit reveal. It looks great, I'm just not wild about tacticool armor redesigns. And yes, I'm well aware of Udon.

@Reeds2Much - Yeah, but do you know about Udon, though?

i hope the performance nails it because the design feels like it's missing something.

@HeraldNumber7 - I think he's not one and done villain, so there is hope for better design later.

Like it except the goggle looking eye set.

I’m okay with it, but the stylings and color scheme makes him look like he was designed by Hasbro for their Nerf line of mercenaries.

@Chewtoy -

there's no character that comes across. they should have never streamlined the skull that way. takes a lot of the punch out of a character that doesn't have a ton of it to lose in the first place.

@HeraldNumber7 - I think that they were probably grappling with the fact that a skull mask isn’t all that distinctive anyway... Hell, Birds of Prey just did a villain with one this very year. Even tactical masks shaped like skulls have been common for years, so I think that they just decided to lean into that.

Of course, as a consequence the end result is pretty generic, as you suggest.

@rebellion - Unless Melina/Yelena added a bulge to hide the fact that a woman is behind the mask, that is definitely a man.

@JermareCBM - I generally agree with you guys but I've seen women with bulges. The bone there is prominent in some women

@JermareCBM - Hard to find good pictures to demonstrate, but there are pelvic protectors for women that can create a bulge, even without deceptive stuffing.

@rebellion - well maybe because it isn't? Weisz is Iron Maiden.
