Black Widow certainly hasn't been delayed as many times as Wonder Woman 1984, but the Marvel Studios movie now won't arrive in theaters until a whole year after it was supposed to. That's crushing for fans, and with a Disney+ release seemingly off the table, we're now going to hope that COVID-19 is under control by the start of next summer.

In an interview with Marie Claire, Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson has shared her thoughts on the release date delays the movie has suffered, and admitted that it didn't come as a surprise.

"I think I probably had a hunch," she says. "It seemed to me all the fun of summer, and everybody being outside and finally having some relaxed rules, caught up with everyone, obviously, because of the virus. I’m sad that people don’t get to watch it for another half year, but I wasn’t majorly upset because it’s important to look after people right now."

"I'd been talking to Kevin Feige about it, and our fellow producers, just trying to understand what the landscape was," the actress recently explained. "We're all eager to get the movie out, but more important than anything, everybody wants the experience to feel safe, to have people be able to really feel confident about sitting in an enclosed theater."

That's very much the company line right now, though should COVID still be causing issues well into 2021, studios will be faced with tough decisions: release movies on streaming/PVOD platforms or push them even further down the calendar. Either way, they stand to lose money, but the former option ensures they make something.
