BLACK WIDOW Star Florence Pugh Says The Upcoming Marvel Movie Tells A "Horrifying" Story

Florence Pugh has previously suggested that Black Widow might be a slightly darker Marvel movie than fans are used to seeing, and the Yelena Belova actress has now described the story as "horrifying."

The Black Widow: The Official Movie Special Book is out now in the U.S., and some intriguing quotes from an interview excerpt with star Florence Pugh have now found their way online (via Yahoo!).

Pugh, who will play Natasha Romanoff's (Scarlett Johansson) fellow Red Room operative Yelena Belova in the film, has previously admitted that she was surprised at how far director Cate Shortland was able to push some of the movie's darker elements, and she's now elaborated on the more "horrifying" aspects of the story.

Black Widow's Emotional Alternate Death Scene From AVENGERS: ENDGAME Now Online

“The storyline that we are telling is very horrifying,” said the Fighting With My Family actress. “It's about women that have been, essentially, abused and trained up to be killing machines."

“As Scarlett said over and over, this is the right time for her to be telling [Black Widow's] story. And we're not shying away from the fact that this story is essentially about women getting their life back. And it's a Marvel Studios film, too. That's pretty rare, and it's very exciting to be a part of that.”

It's difficult to imagine a Disney/Marvel movie dwelling on this type of subject matter to too great an extent, but it certainly sounds like Black Widow is going to touch on some important themes in a more serious manner than we're used to seeing in an MCU adventure.

"In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger."

Black Widow is currently scheduled to hit theatres next May.

I love Florence Pugh. That's all.

We'll see when this film comes out though.

@Kumkani - With Trump gone the virus will no longer be a big deal and the theaters will reopen. I think they will move Black Widow up now to Feburary.

I feel like we’ve read this same article at least a time or two. Guess there’s not much they can say without revealing too much of the movie, though.

I do so hope that there is no forced laughter in this and it’s a bit more gritty like the Winter Solider is.

I hope we get to see this soon.

Also a little OT, what happened to "Morbius?"

My hope is that F&WS starts right after Wandavision! What's the Chances? Or, do you think we'll have to wait until Black Widow finally drops? It seems Disney Plus lost a lot of subscriptions for lack of content

The only thing "horrifying" about this movie is how mediocre it'll end up being.

I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with Black Widow 2&3 once the baton is passed to Yelena.

Would be cool to see Molot Boga as a villain

By horrifying, I assume she's referring to its appalling lack of nudity.
