Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Says The Pandemic Only "Twisted" One Planned Element Of Phase 4

We know that Marvel Studios likes to plan ahead, but with the pandemic causing chaos across the globe, not even the Marvel Cinematic Universe emerged unscathed. However, one big change did, in fact, occur.

When COVID-19 closed most of the world down last year, not even the Marvel Cinematic Universe was immune to its impact. The entire Phase 4 slate was delayed, while productions were closed down (leading to WandaVision being released on Disney+ before The Falcon and The Winter Soldier).

During a recent interview with On The Red Carpet at the Black Widow premiere, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked just how much things changed because of the pandemic. Surprisingly, he revealed that only one thing ended up being "twisted" as a result of these delays.

"There's also an Easter egg that originally was going to appear first in Black Widow and then show up in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and because [of] the pandemic, [it's] the only thing in our Phase Four that's twisted a little bit," Feige confirmed.

"So, for fans that watched Falcon and the Winter Soldier, there's an Easter egg waiting for them in this film."

Considering the fact that - SPOILER WARNING! - it's previously been reported that Julia Louis-Dreyfus was supposed to first appear as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Black Widow, chances are that's what Feige is talking about here.

It doesn't sound like it really makes much of a difference to that movie or The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, but it's still interesting to think about what might have been. While it was a blow to fans, pushing the entire Phase 4 slate down the release date calendar certainly helped avoid any troublesome continuity issues, and if this was as bad as things got, it's not the end of the world!

How do you plan on watching Black Widow when it's released in theaters and on Disney+?

I'm still waiting for the Crossbones' buyer from Civil War to be revealed. Either project seemed like a place to get answers, but for now I just assume it was Zemo

@bkmeijer - Yep. There is also loads of stuff from the Antman franchise too that has yet to be revealed. Like who Mitchell Carson was working for (Hydra??) and Walter Goggins' character.

@Orphix - I think Walter Goggins was working for Mitchell Carson, since Carson does have the Cross Particles put nothing to make them work with

FaTWS was such a disappointment by the end. The Cap trilogy is the golden standard for the MCU and i was so hopeful that Cap would continue without Steve. But that finale by itself managed to dampen any excitement i had at all.

As for the virus sub-plot, i'm in the camp that it was cut out late in the game. It's just too distorted for it not to have been. That's what it feels like to me anyway from watching it.

I thought Falcon and the Winter Soldier was just okay which was a massive disappointment in the amazing Captain America series. It was just too scattershot and unfocused with lame villains. Should have just made Zemo the villain again as he was great.

I still choose to believe that the pandemic forced them to change some of the Flag Smashers plot.

show was a hot mess. writing room was a disservice to the show. Hard to get excited about a Cap 4 film from this team. Wanda and Loki have been pretty awesome though! Waldron is a damn good writer, especially!

It's all connected!*

*unless a few years pass and we don't like the quality of a few things here and there. Then it may or may not be connected...otherwise, it's most definitely connected, except when it's not.
