Marvel's BLACK WIDOW Movie May Be Taking Aim At A 2020 Release Date

A Black Widow movie is reportedly in the works at Marvel and a new report points to the movie being released during the same year as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Hit the jump for what we know so far.

According to a new report, Marvel Studios is planning to release Black Widow in 2020. The movie has only just found a screenwriter but if production were to begin next year, it's certainly feasible that it could reach us a little over two years from now. There's still no word on whether or not this could actually be a female-led team-up movie but that's now the prevailing theory among many fans.

Marvel currently has three Phase 4 movies set for release in 2020, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 the only one currently "confirmed" to be on the way that year by writer and director James Gunn.

That's probably coming on the May, so that leaves August and November.
It's possible Doctor Strange - which came out in November 2016 - could take the latter slot, so a prime summer release for Black Widow seems feasible. We'll just have to wait and see but the signs are all pointing to the character finally getting her due on the big screen in the very near future. Are you guys excited for that?

If they're gonna do it yeah, do it now before the X-Men or Fantastic Four start rolling in again.

It's even harder that Marvels slate will always have to accommodate a Spidey film every 2 years/ASAP just so Sony keeps getting their cheques.

Cool, Bring it. I believe Black Widow a la John Wick or Mission Impossible would be nice.

It seems to me she will need a strong enemy of violence, one who is skilled, maybe bulleye or agent zero...or maybe...taskmaster

I have no idea where the rumour of this being a female-led team-up movie comes from, there's nothing pointing out to that. Just because some actresses want a team-up movie doesn't mean this is it.

@MalseMarcel - I don't know, he did say he wanted to make a bw film, but after AoU and JL I want him as far away from the mcu as possible.

@Polaris - I don't think age of ultron wasn't that bad and justice league was doomed from the start

@MalseMarcel - I didn't just mean the overall quality of the movies, but the way he writes women, especially Black Widow. I don't know who that redheaded woman in AoU was, but it sure as hell wasn't Natasha Romanoff.

@Polaris - Alright, I gotta agree with that. That I am a monster scene was just terrible

@Polaris - Im not sure for an A-force type of film yet. But an all female super spy thriller,Yes Please!!! Just add Maria Hill, Mockingbird and Sharon Carter, maybe even Quake and we are all set.

@DanMcNice - I don't want the bw movie to become a team-up movie, I mean, I want it to be about Natasha. That said, I'm really hoping Maria and Sharon will be in it, they're the perfect characers for this movie and I want to see more of them. It's a shame their roles have been so small. I'd love if Bobbi showed up too (I miss her so much in AoS) but sadly I don't think she'll ever be in the movies, same as Quake :(

As for an A-force type film, just make it space based, Enchantress as the villain, to defeat her, Valkyrie must assemble a team of warrior women: Gamora, Nebula, Captain Marvel, Sif (for example) Thor should be there too somewhere, bewitched by Amora probably lol
