David Hayter Talks About His Old BLACK WIDOW Script
Voice-actor, screenwriter and director David Hayter talks about his old Black Widow script he wrote Marvel Studios and why he thinks the film never got made. "I’m going to talk to Marvel about possibly re-igniting that project. It really depends on Marvel on what they want to do with that character."
These days, David Hayter is probably best known as the voice of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid video game franchise. But Hayter also has a solid background as a traditional actor, screenwriter and director. In fact, Hayter wrote a script for a solo Black Widow movie for Marvel Studios a long time ago, however, a few misfires in the genre has left the script sitting on the shelf for roughly 10 years. Now, with properties like The Hunger Games, Divergent and others leading the movement for more female action movies, is the time right for a solo outing for the lone female member of The Avengers?
On his script, Hayter told Latino Review, “For ‘Black Widow,’ I wrote [a script] ten years ago and I was attached to direct it then. Then a few female action movies came out and they didn’t do very well. And the movie got shelved. It’s on IMDB and I’m going to talk to Marvel about possibly re-igniting that project. It really depends on Marvel on what they want to do with that character. So that’s the status of that right now. “[So] as far as I know, it’s not a project that’s happening yet. But, I have written a script for it.”
