Robert Downey Jr. Will Reportedly Return As Tony Stark/Iron Man For BLACK WIDOW

In what could be some pretty major news, it's being reported that Robert Downey Jr. will reprise the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man one last time in Marvel's upcoming Black Widow movie. More past the jump...

We all assumed we'd seen the last of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark when the character was killed off in Avengers: Endgame, but it looks like the actor will return as Iron Man one more time.

In their report on tonight's Saturn Awards, Deadline mentions that Downey Jr. will appear as Stark in next year's solo Black Widow movie. It's a bit of a throwaway reveal for what should be a fairly major bit of news, so we're wondering if there's a chance they might be mistaken. It is also surprising that this wasn't reported sooner.

Of course, if this is accurate it doesn't mean The Armored Avenger is going to be resurrected. It's been confirmed that Black Widow is a prequel set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Endgame. Given the time-frame, Stark showing up does actually make sense, although it's probably safe to assume it's not going to be a large role.

We don't have anything else on this for the time being, but stay tuned for updates.

Kind of doubt this. And honestly, he doesn't need to be in this movie. Mentioned and referenced to? Sure. Archival footage? Sure. But he doesn't need to reprise the role.

if it's true, then this really should have come out before Endgame, instead of Captain Marvel. Endgame should be the last time we see Tony, at least for a long time, way too soon for Tony to make an appearence

Deadline's one of the most reliable sources available, but I have a feeling this was meant to be like an end of movie cameo or something, and they ended up spoiling it with this

@tmp3

If true, 20 bucks says it’s him via a hologram call to Nat or some shit while she is on the run.

This makes me want a fourth Iron Man movie with RDJ even more. Jon Favreau may have said there's no plans right now, but it could explore a time before Infinity War and Endgame when he realises when the day he dies comes, he has to build a legacy for himself in death.

Watch it be a five second cameo. Still cool, though.

I mean, he WAS in FFH in that Beck-MIT flashback. Probably something like that. Doubt it's new RDJ scenes.

I hate prequels. But... This might get my ass in the seat

Endgame was the perfect sendoff for Downey as Iron-Man. My initial reaction was very hesitant, but I know Marvel will make it work and feel "right".
