BLADE May Have Found A New Director In THE INSPECTION Helmer Elegance Bratton

Even after that recent release date delay, we may finally have some good news about Blade as a new report suggests the Daywalker's movie has found a new director in The Inspection's Elegance Bratton...

Six months or so before the world closed down thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige made a jaw-dropping announcement in the closing moments of an epic Hall H panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Joined by Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali, he revealed that a Blade movie was finally on the way and, over three years later...there's still no sign of it.

We did hear the Daywalker's voice in Eternals' post-credits scene, but director Bassam Tariq parting ways with Marvel Studios last month has only served to further delay the movie. There have since been reports that the script needed some work, with Ali giving some input into that as Moon Knight and X-Men '97 scribe Beau DeMayo gets to work on punching it up.

It feels a little like the project has fallen by the wayside in what's proven to be a very busy few years for Marvel Studios, but we may have a positive update even after that recent release date delay.

According to The Cosmic Circus, Elegance Bratton is looking like a very likely contender to helm Blade

He's something of a newcomer, but began his career in the 2010s, writing, directing, and producing a variety of projects including the short film Walk for Me, the reality television series My House, and the documentary Pier Kids.

His feature debut will be A24's The Inspection. That's released next month and is described as "[a] deeply moving film inspired by [Bratton's] own story, a young, gay Black man, rejected by his mother and with few options for his future, decides to join the Marines, doing whatever it takes to succeed in a system that would cast him aside."

"But even as he battles deep-seated prejudice and the grueling routines of basic training, he finds unexpected camaraderie, strength, and support in this new community, giving him a hard-earned sense of belonging that will shape his identity and forever change his life."

As we're sure you'll agree after watching the trailer below, it looks like a very powerful movie, and Bratton would definitely be an exciting choice of director for Blade. Hopefully, some official news will follow, though it doesn't usually take the trades long to weigh in once a story like this breaks.

Blade is set to be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.

Nothing against an upcoming director and he might do an amazing job, but they could try getting a bigger name. If Dr Strange can have Sam Raimi, Blade deserved some love as well, especially considering the leading actor.

@Urubrodi - my wariness with big names, is they often try to put their signature style to a film. Everyone knows a jj Abrams film or a James Gunn film or Sam raimi film. They each have their 'isms. And to me that's predictable. A newer director is hungrier and perhaps more malleable. And where they may lack in experience, the MCU support team more than makes up for

@Vigor - blade might benefit from a signature touch and someone who can convince Kevin and co to not make this your average MCU flick

Never heard of this guy. Hopefully he will kill it!

But also...where the hell is Steve McQueen...that guy is like a Christopher Nolan / Denis Villenueve level director. Can someone give him a call?

@Forthas - he's working on both a documentary and movie about word war 2.

@Forthas - He once said that he would be interested in directing a Batman film.

But I don't think WBD would let him just make a Steve McQueen film. They'd force a massive action movie set-piece in the third act, like in every Batman movie.

Both his debut feature and his upcoming feature (and even an upcoming documentary of his) are about how black soldiers are different to white soldiers.

So, this would also probably focus on how Blade is different because he's black.
Which is not what Blade's about. Blade is different because he's a half-vampire vampire slayer.

@ObserverIO - ah, racism. Not happy you’re keeping it alive, but what can ya do, ya know? Probably hated the Little Mermaid trailer too.

It always amazes me when people get bent out of shape for proper representation. How can a white director possibly relate to a black character? They cannot.

@FrobisherSays - excuse me?

Ok, 1. Not a racist.

2. Don't care about The Little Mermaid.

3. "How can a white director possibly relate to a black character? They cannot." You don't think that's a little racist? smh

4. None of this has anything to do with what I said.

Do you think a person should be defined by the color of their skin? Do you think we can have a movie with a black lead where he doesn't have to carry around the baggage of hundreds of years of racism and race politics and make it an overt part of his story?

You see a black person get up to say something and you think "He's gonna talk about the black experience" don't you?

You'd never think that about a white person would you?
