BLUE BEETLE Now Looks Set For A $30 Million Opening Weekend

Though a $30 million opening wouldn't exactly be considered a major success, it is significantly more than Blue Beetle's initial box office projections of $20 million...

Long-range box office tracking pointed to Blue Beetle making an underwhelming $20 million over the course of its opening weekend, and while the latest estimates aren't much better, they are a little more respectable.

Deadline reports that Jaime Reyes' big-screen debut now looks set for a $30 million bow when it releases on August 18. This would obviously be a more positive start, but can the movie ultimately prove to be a success for Warner Bros.?

Though Blue Beetle's budget ($120 million) is not on par with The Flash, the Scarlet Speedster's recent solo outing proved that the current era of DC Comics-based movies simply aren't connecting with general audiences, and since Reyes is a far more obscure character, we'd say it is entirely possible that his upcoming movie fails to make much of an impact at the box office.

Positive reviews and word-of-mouth could turn things around, but it's hard to be optimistic after seeing how the last few DC-based films performed. At this stage, James Gunn and Peter Safran have their work cut out to generate a sufficient amount of interest in the rebooted DCU.

Blue Beetle fan-screenings were held in The UK tonight, but social media reactions are still embargoed. That won't stop spoilers finding their way online, though, so if all of the movie's secrets spill before it hits theaters, we might be looking at an even lower audience turnout.

Do you think Blue Beetle will prove the analysts wrong, or are we looking at another box office bomb for Warner Bros. Discovery? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments section.

"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."

"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."

The cast also includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.

Blue Beetle is set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.

Sorry Jaime Reyes. You're cool as hell in Young Justice but your debut feature film looks uninteresting.

"We were around when the Western died and there will be a time when the superhero movie goes the way of the Western. It doesn't mean there won't be another occasion where the Western comes back and the superhero movie someday returns. Of course, right now the superhero movie is alive and thriving. I'm only saying that these cycles have a finite time in popular culture."

I hope people give this one a chance. I’m not a fan of a lot of the bad writing for cbm’s lately but I think this one looks interesting and could be decent. Let’s hope it stands out compared to the underwhelming movies that have released in the past year.

This was shot to go straight to streaming and it totally looks the part. I'd be surprised if this movie cracks $150 million worldwide.

That would equal Shazam 2’s opening, which had a disastrous theatrical run.

Doubt this movie will have the positive word of mouth enough to get extra draw in the seats.

The effects look good.
The rest looks like a family movie crossed with an Iron Man rip-off.
I will probably watch it, but it dies not look great.

@MarvelZombie616 - Jaime would have to be an arrogant self-inventor on a redemption arc to be anywhere close to Iron Man. Also his powers, besides coming from outer space, are literally more advanced from the get-go than Tony's armors since the Scarab is all about nanotechnology. And finally Jaime is a legacy character taking on the mantle after Ted Kord and Dan Garret.

They couldn't be anymore different.

Slowly rising, that's a good thing. These selective screenings they've been doing without going over the top like with The Flash as well as the online fan support of the hashtagh "Blue Beetle Battalion" have been carrying the marketing since WBD didn't care as it was putting more in Barbie and that other flopped DC film.

Even if it doesn't make enough money to be part of the DCU, which is really a shitty way to measure a DC IP's worth if Gunn really is that beholden to Zaslav's nonsense bar, it should get a TV series on Max or somewhere so that the creatives can keep fleshing Jaime's arcs, his powers, his family, Palmera City and everything to do with the Scarab. From introducing the other Scarab like Black Beetle, Green Beetle, Yellow Beetle, The Reach, etc. Having to wait as the years go by until Gunn finds the character the proper time to return would be boring as Xolo and the rest of the cast will just grow older.

Make it an Elseworlds TV series focused on Jaime's Earth and done. Everything we've been consuming all these years have been that after all, Elseworlds. Gunn's DCU is not gonna be any different anyway and if Gal Gadot can stay, confusion be damned, then so can this happen.

Anyway, I'll be there next week for the premiere.
