BLUE BEETLE Passes $80 Million Worldwide After 48% Second Weekend Domestic Drop

The latest box office numbers are in, and despite dropping to third place on the domestic chart, Blue Beetle is holding (relatively) steady with a better second-weekend drop than other recent DC movies...

The updated box office numbers are in, and Blue Beetle took in an estimated $12.8 million for a better-than-expected 48.9% drop.

Despite slipping to third place on the domestic chart, this is a positive result for Warner Bros.' latest DC Comics movie, which had a much lower drop than both The Flash and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, giving it the fifth-best hold in the history of the DCEU.

Jaime Reyes' big-screen debut now sits at $46.3 million in the U.S., and has passed $80 million worldwide. Analysts are predicting a final global cume of between $140M and $170M, on a reported $120M budget (not factoring in marketing costs).

Far from a major success, but not exactly the disastrous flop it's being labelled as, either.

Can positive reviews and word-of-mouth keep audiences turning up and give this Beetle legs for a while longer?

"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."

"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."

The cast also includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.

Blue Beetle is now in theaters.

Ummmmmm that's a flop of I have ever seen one. The flash cost 230 million and ended up making 270 million. Blue beetle cost 120 million and will end it's run around 150 million. Literally the same percentage as the flash🤡

@AmazingFILMporg - less marketing for Blue Beetle, compared to The Flash. So there might be a chance for blue beetle to break even if it gets close to the 200 mil mark

Also the Flash turned out having a 300 million dollar budget.

@JoJo1982 -

It cost 120 million to make. No way in hell it makes profit with 200 million total boxoffice.

That's cope. Come on, man😅

@JoJo1982 - that’s not how Box Office works my guy.

Say BB miraculosly somehow gets to $200 million globally, that would be $114 mil domestic and $86 mil overseas based on the current 57/43 split:

Domestic chains gets 40% of that aka $46 mil, while overseas chains get about 70% of that or about $60 mil.

That leaves WB only $94 mil in revenue which is way under their $120 mil budget.

@XKnight - And that's without factoring marketing.

@defenderofthefaith - I meant it's not the huge flop it's being labelled as. I might edit that to make it a bit clearer.

@MarkCassidy - Under $200m by today’s standards should be considered a massive flop from a studio like that. Bad Boys For Life broke $200m in a year no one was allowed to go to the movies.

DC’s in such shambles, even an unmitigated bomb like this isn’t considered that bad compared to the others 🤦🏽‍♂️

@PlusUltra - I went to see the movie yesterday since there was nothing to do and I actually enjoyed it for the most part. There were actual stakes, emotional beats(my wife actually cried at one point), and fun action. It’s definitely flawed, but better than I expected. The dc brand, and the obscurity of this character are definitely hurting box office.

...dude, that is most definitely a flop. In fact a comparable flop to the flash.

Wtf is wrong with you? You spend like the entire year talking about what a massive flop the flash was, yet when another movie flops an equivalent amount, you don't even consider it a flop?

Blue Beetle will probably see a huge surge in popularity when it hits streaming. It's a solid superhero film, but I'd understand if people would wait to pay a cheaper price to see it.

@AmazingFILMporg - Yup. The obnoxious "go broke..." slogan has been dead [frick]ing wrong since at least 2018 with Black Panther, but it doesn't fit the narrative. When all you have is a hammer to shape what you want, everything is gonna look like nails.

Daily reminder that a film to break even needs to make 2.5 times it's budget. So it's budget being 120 million means it needed to make 300 million just to break even. Anything over 300 million would've been profit.

It ain't rocket science 💁
