The updated box office numbers are in, and Blue Beetle took in an estimated $12.8 million for a better-than-expected 48.9% drop.

Despite slipping to third place on the domestic chart, this is a positive result for Warner Bros.' latest DC Comics movie, which had a much lower drop than both The Flash and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, giving it the fifth-best hold in the history of the DCEU.

Jaime Reyes' big-screen debut now sits at $46.3 million in the U.S., and has passed $80 million worldwide. Analysts are predicting a final global cume of between $140M and $170M, on a reported $120M budget (not factoring in marketing costs).

Far from a major success, but not exactly the disastrous flop it's being labelled as, either.

Can positive reviews and word-of-mouth keep audiences turning up and give this Beetle legs for a while longer?

"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."

"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."

The cast also includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.

Blue Beetle is now in theaters.
