BLUE BEETLE Reportedly Casts TED LASSO Star Jason Sudeikis As DC Comics' Superhero Ted Kord

We've been wondering if the upcoming Blue Beetle movie will include Ted Kord, and it appears Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis has been cast as the fan-favourite DC Comics superhero. Read on for details...

Despite originally being earmarked for an HBO Max release, we recently learned that Blue Beetle will instead premiere in theaters. It feels like the right decision for a movie that puts a character like Jaime Reyes front and centre, and excitement for the project has definitely increased with each subsequent piece of casting news we get.

One of the biggest additions was Susan Sarandon as the villainous Victoria Kord, a character created specifically for the DC Extended Universe who shares a surname with a certain someone.

We are, of course, talking about Ted Kord. The DC Universe's original Blue Beetle, Ted first appeared in 1966 and is a beloved character among comic book fans. Now, The Cosmic Circus is reporting that Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis has boarded the project as this iconic superhero.

Apparently, a cast listing for a "Ted Body Double" reveals that Warner Bros. is looking for a "blonde ad brunette talent for a still photo shoot," and it's noted that this stand-in must "match the complexion of the reference photo." That's clearly a photo of Sudeikis, even though his eyes have been blurred out in a pretty poor effort to hide the actor's identity.

Directed by Angel Manuel Soto and written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, Blue Beetle stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, Belissa Escobedo as Milagros Reyes, George Lopez as Uncle Rudy, Adriana Barraza as Nana, Elpidia Carrillo as Rocio, Damián Alcázar as Alberto, and Harvey Guillén in an unknown role.

We'll see if Sudeikis winds up playing Ted, but the signs are certainly pointing to that being the case. We'll no doubt find out more ahead of Blue Beetle's release on August 18, 2023.

Before the brilliant Ted Lasso show, I always wanted to see him play J. Jonah Jameson.

@LtFrankDrebin - Wow great casting. I was hoping that’s who JB Smoov was when he was initially casted, but this is great too. I get why they went back to Simmons, but the nostalgia really kills progress 😩

@LtFrankDrebin - The way Ted Lasso is written, with its hope and joy mixed with some realness, I kinda wanted Sudeikis and Hunt to write a Superman film. And Sudeikis play Perry White.

OK, which universe, if any, is this set in?

Meh, doesn't matter I suppose

@ossie85 - probably in the same universe as Aquaman, Shazam and Batgirl. Although who knows what The Flash movie will change, if it ever comes out.

@ossie85 - the one with Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Shazam, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker and Batgirl. Atleast that's the movies I pretend make up the good DCEU

@ossie85 - The universe where the Flash is a nice upstanding young man who doesn't choke women or get arrested for drunken bar fights every other week. So Earth-838.

I like Jason Sudeikis but I already get the feeling of DC trying to copy the Aunt Man films.

@lordSTALE - it's insane how much they managed to keep out of the trailers in terms of cameos that actually impacted the plot.

Excellent casting if true! And I'm breathing a BIG sigh of relief to know for sure that my man Ted is indeed going to be in this. Probably too much to hope for Booster, but there's always the chance for a spin-off.

This is great. I’d love to see a blue and gold movie with him and Will Forte.
