"Jamie Reyes is a superhero... whether he likes it or not."

DC Studios has confirmed that the first trailer for the upcoming Blue Beetle movie will be online tomorrow, and you can check out a brief announcement teaser below.

These pre-trailer promos usually contain a few snippets of footage, but Warner Bros. has decided to be stingy with this one! Some graphics, an updated logo and a few bars of "Just Wanna Rock" by Lil Uzi Vert is your lot for now.

Update: Well, we spoke too soon!

Originally developed for the HBO Max streaming service, fans grew concerned that Blue Beetle may suffer the same fate as the recently cancelled Batgirl, but the movie was given a theatrical release date shortly after Warner Bros. was acquired by Discovery.

"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."

"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."

The cast also includes Susan Sarandon, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.

Blue Beetle is set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.

@SorceresSupreme - Is it a known song? I thought it might have been the score! Anyway, yes it's awful.

@RorMachine - yeah its just that lately many superhero trailers have rap songs and it feels weird to me. i would like them to highlight the OST in the trailers to also make it feel more cinematic than tv or so

@SorceresSupreme - Rap is like the most popular music genre in the world so it's really not that weird.

@BB8ANG - what i mean by weird is the aesthetic. its not unexpected that they would do that, but the end result is weird, to stamp a rap song in everything even if the theme of the movie is not akin to that? ends up feeling weird, or misplaced, even if its expected

At this point the best marketing DC could give this flick is to let people believe it's part of the new shared universe. The ambiguity hurt Shazam and they should have learned from that.

I know they'll want to start with Superman but it leaves these limbo movies with a weight around their ankles.

@TheManWithoutFear - which brings up a new question: when Gunn introduces those elseworld stories that have no connection to the DCU will people go and see it even though there’s no connection? It worked for the Batman, but that’s Batman.

@Arthorious - will people even know? How will he make the distinction? It's sort of like if marvel had released a whatif movie in theatres.

@TheManWithoutFear - the only way I think they will know is during the opening credits he has Elseworld labeled on there. At least with Marvels What ifs the name alone helps a bit.

Lemme find out Xolo in his first big screen role as well as closing out Cobra Kai, same year. Because it was originally a streaming movie I think this can make a few dollars.

Peter Safran is a co-producer of this film. So I guess we can expect Agent Emilia Harcourt to show up in the end credits.

@Forthas - Anyone who complains about having her put on screen is either blind, a gay male (not gay bashing), or just plain jealous of Gunn! Because...how can you complain about this?

Forthas
Forthas - 4/2/2023, 1:03 PM
@DCfan84 - I was not complaining. In fact, I think that she is fine as a character. The only problem is that she is in a relationship with James Gunn. That is not her fault and does not mean she is not up for the role...it makes sense in some ways. But it would not be a problem if Gunn did not try to pretend that he fired Cavill for creative reasons and is not retaining other DCEU characters who happen to be friends or relatives. That shows that he does not try to provide fans with what they want, it is an ego driven project that serves only himself.

@DCfan84 -

I think people have a problem with it cause she had no experience before Gunn. I believe she just came out of nowhere and it feels like a Rob zombie situation where he puts his wife in his projects but gets no work outside of her affiliation with Gunn which feels opportunistic 😑

@Forthas - Cavill's Superman (in and only in MOS) was the only part of the DCEU I liked, but then he got stale! In fact, it was increasingly pissing me off how depressing and "non-Superman" he became. Not that that's Cavill's fault, but I think that Gunn understands that there's just too much taint surrounding his Supes for there to be any success thereafter with him. Mamoa will be a different character i.e. Lobo, Gadot's WW can be salvaged (even though 84 sucked), Miller's Flash is gone after the movie is released. Don't get me started on Cyborg even being one of the first members of the OG JL, let alone Ray [frick]ing Fisher playing him. Noone remembers General Swanwick as Martian Manhunter. Phil Knights Batman was only good in that warehouse scene when he just unloaded on the goons. Idk, I just think Gunn's Supes needs to be a badass i.e. Captain America in Endgame facing Thanos army alone, and part saving kittens from a tree... and that's not Cavill's Superman.
Forthas
Forthas - 4/2/2023, 1:36 PM
@DCfan84 - OK...If james Gunn really believed that, why is Viola Davis STILL Amanda Waller. She was in the first Suicide Squad..there was no taint there? Same with Margo Robbie who he seems intent on working with again. And let's not mention how his own DC film debut "The Suicide Squad bombed hard. It is one of the worst performing films in the DCEU...AND HE WAS THE DIRECTOR!!!. I guess that did not taint anything.

There is no way around it. He is picking and choosing who HE wants (as opposed to what the fans want) thus making this whole thing self serving. The very thing that I have argued is the reason why Warner Brothers is over $40 Billion dollars in debt, has been sold twice since Man of Steel was released and appears to have lost some of its most loyal fanbase.

I have a feeling everything none Batman related
at DC will underperform for the foreseeable future though😑

@AmazingFILMporg - Perhaps but I don’t think that will be the case with Superman:Legacy. I believe they will promote the hell out of that movie and I imagine that James Gunn’s name will figure prominently in any of the media. Although I have to admit I don’t know well how well his name is known among the GA since we are in our own little bubble here and talk about him incessantly.

James Gunn is great and he might deliver but too many variables regarding DCs future are in play.

The obscure characters in his slate .

Connecting everything from tv, films and games.

Keeping DCEU characters and not fully rebooting.

Scrapping Cavill and keeping a groomer.

Cbm fatigue.

I feel like audiences want the big characters now. These side characters are gonna flop. People aren't that interested anymore to go see these obscure characters.

Superman has to be amazing. Being ok isn't gonna cut it anymore.🥲

RolandD - 4/2/2023, 2:04 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - I agree on all points. Based on some of his officially released statements and tweets, I think he gets that a Superman movie does not need the same sense of humor as many of his other movies. I think he can deliver on that one. As to the rest of the slate, not including The Brave and the Bold, time will tell.
