Blue Beetle arrives in theaters later this month, and tickets are now on sale.
To coincide with the announcement, we have a clip from a new behind-the-scenes featurette with star Xolo Mariduena speaking about being given the opportunity to bring DC's first Latino superhero lead to life; a brief teaser promo spotlighting snippets of new footage, and a new IMAX poster giving us another look at Jaime Reyes' Scarab armor.
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has confirmed that Blue Beetle is the first official DCU character, but this movie won't necessarily be canon with the new DCU. Of course, that could change if it's successful enough at the box office, but things aren't looking too great on that front!
Unless analysts' predictions prove to be way off, WB/DC could be looking at another flop after both Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash seriously underperformed.
"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."
"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."
The cast also includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.
Blue Beetle is set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.
